How to feel feminine again?

    Hi

This may seem a bit strange but lately I don't feel very feminine. When casually dresses as in at home, I seem to be always in tracksuit bottoms, t-shirts, trackie tops etc. When I go out I wear jeans and tops (nice dressie tops), work wear has to be business casual so shirts and blouses.

I use to wear skirts to work but haven't in a couple of years, not sure why. I do have dresses and skirts in my wardrobe but I always feel over dressed if I wear them :-(

My niece is getting Christened on Sunday and it will be a faisly dressy occasion and I'm looking forward to it but I went shooping for a dress the other day and at lunch today, although I seen loads that I thought looked good when I tried them on they just didn't seem to suit or I felt uncomfortable in them.

I'm going to get my hair done tomorrow (always makes me feel good) but I just don't know how to make myself feel feminine again, any advice???

What makes you feel like a woman?

Well it's only a small little thing, but I always make a point of having my toenails pretty and perfect and painted, even if it's only me that's going to see them! :)

Oh, and perfume. Get a nice perfume that you love and that makes you happy, and make a point of wearing it every day.

generally if your hair looks well then you'll feel pretty and attractive so hopefully getting it done will help!

    do you wear make up?
if it doesnt appeal to you try getting an eyelash/brow tint (unless they're already dark enough!) to make them more defined without needing make up. i always feel much better after these, more polished. if they are already dark, get a good eyebrow shape it will frame your face. and use an eyelash curler, they mae you look more wide eyed and curly lashes are very feminine. you can get an eyelash perm done in those eyebrow bar places in debenhams, the ones that do the henna tattoos, but they're fifty euro, they last a while though.

if u do wear make up then maybe some cute pastel cream eye shadow, these can be really girly! and some pink cheek tint, the body shop do a good one!

clothes wise, cardigans can look quite dainty over tops instead of hoodies. and some linen trousers instead of trackies, they're as comfy but more polished, for want of a better word.

bright nail polish, especially if done by someone else always brightens up my day!

i second the perfume suggestion, that or a body wash and spray set.

but generally if you dont feel comfortable in your own skin you wont feel comfy in clothes, so look after yourself, maybe get a wax done, buy some bubble bath bombs from lush (they make your skin so soft and smelly!), some fancy hair products, have yourself pampered from tip to toe!

oh light candles when having your bath! :D

    hope this helps!

If you're into traditionally feminine clothing, then maybe some very sexy, lacy or satin underwear?
High heels, sweet scents, ribbon, bow or floral patterns, and colourful or sparkly jewelery and accessories are predominantly viewed as feminine.

However I don't think you necessary have to be into those things to feel feminine. There are many many women who are into completely different styles, and I'm sure that they feel just as feminine and womanly as someone who is into traditional feminine style.
I am like you in that I tend to wear very casual clothes, but I really like dresses and quite girly things, and I also love rock/punk style clothing [can't think of right word to describe it], and actually love when the two are combined,, like a hot pink dress, with a cropped black leather jacket, or else black leather ankle boots.
In my own case it's a mixture of laziness[so easy 2 throw on a hoody or simple top] and insecurity about not having a flat stomach that hinders me from wearing the clothes that I would love to wear regularly. I spend ages going through the Fashion & Appearance thread, just getting ideas, and admiring all the different styles that forum members put together. You should check it out, there's some great stuff there!:)

Bring some honest, trusted friends with you the next time you are shopping and trying out new looks. You may just be feeling uncomfortable because you are not used to the styles you were trying on and unsure about whether they suit you or not, that's where a few friends honest opinion's may help. Or you may find a completely different style that you haven't tried before, and decide you feel most comfortable with that.

You asked for us to say what makes us feel feminine? I find that hard to answer myself. As I mentioned already, I wear very casual clothes that I don't personally view as being the regular girly type that I actually like and consider feminine. However I've never felt unfeminine. Imo I feel that whilst clothing, perfume etc. can definitely enhance feelings of femininity, and be lots of fun, it's not the defining feature of it.

I actually can't answer what makes me feel feminine. I can say that I do feel feminine the odd time I wear a dress, or do my hair, or get some new accessory, but the thing is I always feel feminine anyways.
What makes me feel feminine? It's just an inherent thing that's always there and part of who I am, and I've never actually thought about why before. You've given me something to think about..

Anyhow, hope some of the tips you receive in this thread helps, and have fun trying all the ideas out until you find something that clicks.:)

Heels. Nothing makes me feel like a woman like heels. They change your whole posture, sticking out your womanly bits. I feel like a different person in jeans and cons than in my usual work uniform of dresses and heels.

If you used to wear skirts, try to get back into it. It's easier in winter as you can wear opaques and don't have to faff around making sure your legs are 100% hair free and your toenails are perfect. But dresses are easier than skirts - I wear them to work because it's dress on, go. No faffing around with does this shirt go with this skrt/trousers or whatever. I just feel much more me in a dress.

If you're not comfortable in all the dresses you saw, then start trying dresses that don't immediately appeal on the hanger - I see things all the time that on instinct look great but when I pick them up I see it's a shape that won't suit. You just need to find the styles that work for you instead of against you. I swear, dresses are easier than trousers. 100%.

The other posters all have good comments, but I suspect you feel a bit like you've fallen into a rut. Try adding a dash of something to your usual clothes - an unusual necklace, a scarf, whatever, throwing in a feminine touch and work your way back to the skirts & dresses.

You're never overdressed, unless you're in satin at lunchtime.

    +1 on high heels......
Nothing better to make you feel sexy and feminine. Gives you a strut in your step!!

Nice underware should make you feel more confident, and give you a nice curvy shape.

A chiffon scarf in a pastel colour is very girly and can be added to almost any outfit to make it more feminine. TK Max is great for cheap designer scarfs.

And finally make-up, even if its just tinted moisture, masacra, perfume and a lip gloss. The fact that you spent some time getting ready in front of the mirror in the morning will make you feel feminine

Have you tried leggins under your dresses, you mightn't feel so dressed up wearing them with leggins??

I would spend time primping from the toes to the scalp, from the inside out. There's something about having everything buffed and shiny that feels really nice. So like others have said nice underwear and nails..the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.

And (one) glass of champagne, or some other favourite fancy tipple :).
