    Just a head's up -

MyMemory.co.uk no longer appear to be providing free shipping.

    Standard Delivery is now £1.95

Thats only if they are more expensive than competitors, although you will get the "cut the nose off to spite the face" brigade who might boycott them now and pay more elsewhere for an item with "free postage".

There are no volunteer postmen, the postage price was always included. I have had well over 50 orders with them. I see they still have a 8GB microsd card for £10.99, I usually buy them in pairs, so at £1.95 it is actually cheaper than what I usually pay. The others have not dropped much though.

I used to actually get pissed off with their "free" postage marketing ploy, I usually buy 2 cards at a time and did not like having to pay for postage twice.

Delivery is still free to the UK, but if I was in the UK I would have been pissed off to see everybody get free postage as I would be in effect subsidising them, i.e. it costs less to post from Jersey to the UK than to here. (I was pissed off that I am now subsidising peoples children with the VHI's policy) The worldwide price is also £1.95 though, if it costs less to ship to Ireland than New Zealand the postage should be reflected. I would also like more companies to take the amazon approach -free post once over a certain limit.

In bargain alerts several people are saying they are experiencing delays with mymemory, seemed to have got cheap deals -perhaps they ran out and are awaiting more or something. I usually get my stuff in under 1-2 weeks from them.

I ordered some bargain re-chargeable batteries, which arrived yesterday after a two-week trip. Perhaps high demand was the problem, or even holidays.

Re the shipping charge. It looks like all us foreigners are all now subsidising those poor people in the UK, who can't afford to pay postage.:(

I've only ever bought goods under the vat threshold from these people, so if the postage takes it over that limit, I won't be buying anything from them, because it isn't really worth the hassle, not for me anyway.

They may end up selling less, in which case, they'll have to re-think their strategy.

Had 4 orders with them over the past couple of weeks (before the new shipping rates) and they were all delivered within 5-6 working days no problem.

2 ways to look at that though, as I said

There is no free postage, so the charge to us should only be the additional postage to Ireland. i.e. if the item costs €15 and delivery to the UK is in fact €2, and delivery is €3 to Ireland, then the postage we should pay is €1, as they have already included the postage cost in the item listed as "free delivery".

I always make a point of this fact when emailing foreign ebay sellers who have no price listed to Ireland, yet have "free" postage within their own country. I ask something like "I see you are offering free delivery within the UK, how much will the additional postage be to Ireland above the UK price bearing in mind the post cost is already included"

This prevents them chancing their arm straight off with a full postage price, and stops me having to argue my case later, and risk things going sour. It is also in their interest to give a correct postal cost if somebody else is getting a discount -otherwise they can lose out on a potential buyer and potentially more profit. I am only talking about differences there, if the post is high I do not mind, e.g. if it is a false £100 for postage then every bidder is on the same playing field.

Same here, I imagine most foreign customers were wise to this fact, I know I would place up to 4 separate orders on the same day. I am not certain but I think UK people do not pay VAT on imports from Jersey, so this is another reason they might have introduced it, to discourage multiple orders which they did not see UK guys doing -but they must have known why we did it.

    Really?

I'll buy off whoever is cheapest that I can trust, as I usually do.

I usually use either 7Day or MyMemory depending on what I'm looking for and the eventual cost of the items I want.

£5.95 shipping at 7Day vs. £1.95 at MyMemory.

7Day have a better range when it comes to the stuff I buy most (camera film, inkjet ink & inkjet paper). I find MyMemory better for the promotional deals and the like.

Even with the new shipping costs at MyMemory I'll still shop there when there is a bargain to be had... rather than cut off my nose to spite my face.

But I do think it may have a negative impact on their business.

I was about to buy a memory card reader there earlier this week... but with the shipping cost I decided not to proceed... instead deciding to wait until there was a few items I wanted so's to save on the shipping.

Now... in the meantime I might end up needing some camera film or printer ink... so will head over to 7Day and get these items along with a memory card reader... so loss of business for MyMemory.
