Can anyone recommend a Graphics Card?

Folks, currently I am running a Radeon HD 3200 integrated motherboard with integral HDMI output. I am not that chuffed with TV and DVD picture quality and am thinking of upgrading to a separate graphics card.

Would a graphics card make a difference? I watch HD Satellite and Blu-rays on my HTPC. If so, which one should I go for?

Your TV picture quality is poor because it's interlaced, I've the same graphic on my mobo and it doesn't de-interlace directly and picture quality can look poor on large screens.

I use software de-interlacing and the PQ is so much better the difference is night and day. However from reading what Bob Harris has to say on the matter the Radeon HD5450 will de-interlace directly - http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=66908307&postcount=2.

I can't compare the difference between software de-interlacing and the hardware de-interlacing because I don't own a hardware capable card. I can say I find the TV PQ on my current HTPC running Mediaportal with it's on-board de-interlacing software engine as good if not better than that coming from a SKY HD box on my 42 inch screen.

The DVD image quality may be down to poor up-scaling, again I find Mediaportal does an excellent job at up-scaling but FFdshow can be use to do software up-scaling

Well I decided to take the plunge with a relatively cheap card - the Radeon HD 4350 - and it makes the world of difference! The PQ on my HTPC now beats my Dreambox and right now I'm watching RTE Two via DVBViewer with as good a picture quality as you can get with the 544 X576 resolution on the broadcast.

I was using software deinterlacing so I was getting smooth SD playback but choppy HD especially on ITV 1 HD.

The graphics card really makes a massive difference - no juddering on HD now.
