The Irish

I know this thread might seem strange.
but can somebody explain to me why the Irish are so unaware?

I understand "unaware" is quite vague but honestly if a person was to sit down and ask me to describe the average Irish person
    with one word
I would have to say "unaware"
    now

I dont mean they are "unaware" of their surroundings.. or that they
dont know whats happening in the outside world(in a strange way i almost mean the opposite.)
I mean they are unaware of themselves and the effects of "outside" influence

Why is it that, when I have a conversation with somebody,... they seem oblivious to the fact that
they just regurgitate some buzz words and quotables from a newspaper instead of given their own personal opinion.

ofcourse it is actually "their own personal opinion" and by that I mean
they read it and it became their personal opinion because they are simply susceptible to influence.

I think an excellent showcase would be the economy
    people started believing the hype

they lack foundation of truth.. I dont know if it is over compensation or what but there is almost a bi-polar trait in us as a nation

I know ive gone off on 1
and my post lacks any depth ... and is probably incoherent :)
but im truely irritated and confused by my fellow country men.

    btw
this is not an angry "i lost my job" post.. the economy just jumped into my head there

I would honestly like to know if any1 can see how influenced we have become... and how unaware we are of it

i would also like to know if joining the mainstream(thinking wise) would be better for ones mental health
than constantly fighting against peoples brainwashed opinions

I would also like to add that i am aware that im using the term "the irish"
I do so because I am also aware of non irish people posting on this site
and i wouldn't mind hearing their opinions on irish people

see thats the thinking im actually on about

I dont like to be insulting or anything

but "the irish" are not popular abroad.. where are they popular?
    and what defines popular?

this is fact.. and again I dont mean to be insulting
i hear alot of irish people tell these types of stories about how they were in france(interchangable) and the locals weren't very nice/friendly... but then they found out "we were irish" and everything was rosey

often in foreign countries they will see a white(pale) man speaking english
    and think he is english(wow)
now the english people havn't exactly endeared themselves to the world.. so to alot of countries hearing a person is not english is a relief in itself.

again I dont mean to come down on the english there and i dont know if their reputation is deserved
    im just speaking the facts

Whether it would be good or bad for your health, don't join them!

This is totally incorrect. The Irish are very popular abroad. Im fairly well travelled throughout europe and america and have found alot of places to be very welcoming to the Irish. The exception being 'english stlye' resorts where some Irish act like the people they see on 'Ibiza Uncovered' or some other bullshít. Either way the Irish are a popular people unless you're "unaware" of this. <-- see what I did there

they are opinion based on facts.

    are you Irish?
I sense a sort of denial/defensiveness to your post

maybe we have a different definition of what popular is?

I mean i know we are generally liked as tourists in a country.. but the same can be said about the majority of tourists.

when I hear some people talk about it, there is almost a self righteousness
or cockyness to it that annoys me.
Ive heard irish people say "oh we are loved when we go to other countries but you are a stupid dumb american and the world hates you".. im paraphrasing but im sure you've heard similar claims

how long do you think this love will last with tht type of mentality?

Its difficult to see how you can have a reasonably intelligent discussion based on generalised opinions. OP, you say they are opinions based on facts. What facts?

Everyday taxi pointed out you were just giving opinions, not facts, and you manage to deduce from an eight word post that he is defensive, in denial, and possibly not Irish! What does it matter whether he is Irish or not? He made a perfectly reasonable point - which is a fact, not an opinion - and you are the one who is defensive!

This is not discussion, or psychology, its the kind of late night waffle you get after a night's drinking when everyone thinks they are being deep and meaningful.

who on earth gave you the right to put words in my mouth

    firstly
    I dont drink

    secondly
you are the type of person that makes my blood boil... your troll like behaviour is unacceptable.

    finally

taxi is big enough to jump into the discussion.. i dont think he needs somebody to over-compensate on his behalf.
Maybe you can speak for your self
or are you just projecting when you make a little rant like you just did?

What words have I put in your mouth?
    firstly
    I dont drink

    I didn't say you did
    secondly
you are the type of person that makes my blood boil... your troll like behaviour is unacceptable.

What type of person is that?

taxi is big enough to jump into the discussion.. i dont think he needs somebody to over-compensate on his behalf.

over-compensate? What do you mean? This is a discussion forum, that means that people who do not agree with you can contribute. You were the one that started the mud-slinging in your response to taxi's perfectly innocuous post.
Maybe you can speak for your self
or are you just projecting when you make a little rant like you just did?

Sorry, I don't understand this last sentence.

You still didn't tell us what the 'facts' are that you base your argument on.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Psychology, so I'm closing it. You might find your questions better suited to the Humanities forum.

Crumbs, this always happens when I can't get an internet connection for a day!
