    hi,

Ive just gotten home from an extended stay abroad and i havnt had my car taxed since the end of march (2010)..

I heard i can go to the guards and get something to say the car has been off the road so i wont be liable for tax. Does anyone know exactly what documentation i would need to prove the car hasnt been used? is it an easy thing to get sorted?

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Tad

It's a section at the bottom of the tax form. You are basically declaring that the car has not been in a public place (including parked on a public road) for the stated period. The garda merely witnesses your signature in this section and stamps the form. It is straightforward as long as things are all above board.

See the section of the form where you declare a period of non-use and fill that in and bring it to your local garda station and declare it and they will stamp it for you.
