Question about Apps when abroad...

Hi all, I'm on the O2 network & I'm heading over to the UK for the weekend and I'm just wondering about using my apps when I'm there - Is it going to rob me??? I've been googling a bit about it this week but to be honest, I'm still a bit confused :o
I asked the girl in the O2 shop today and she said all apps are entirely free to use (even when roaming)... Now, I know I shouldn't question her answer but she has given me incorrect info before on another matter.:(
I did a small bit of reading a few mins ago and see some people saying to be wary of using Apps abroad as some of them require info to be downloaded from the internet... (Sorry if I didn't explain that bit right!)
It's mostly just the facebook app that I'd be using, by the way.
Have any of ye got stung using them abroad? Don't wanna get my bill and find its ginormous!
I'm half thinking of leaving the iphone at home and taking another pay as you go mobile with me!
    Opinions folk?
    Thanks :)

unless your data is free while abroad, then turn mobile data off. thay way you waont acess any data while away and your apps cant access data to update, push, notification etc and hence you dont get stung with roaming data charges.

if you need to use an app or mail or anything data related, try get to a WiFi spot.

Thanks, I have unlimited data usage alright but I don't think that applies to being abroad, sadly! So, turning off mobile data will put a hold on all internet usage, am I right? Does that mean I can still use an app but only in a limited way? Apologies if thats a really dumb question...

Internet through the mobile phone network, yes.

You can of course still use WiFi at no cost.

Think about it this way - how much use is Internet Explorer when you have no internet connection on your computer?

Yes, you can start it up, you can open any pages stored on your C:\ drive, but you will not be able to access any pages on the internet.

Same applies for apps. If the app in question uses local data, then it will be fine (games, for example). If, on the other hand, it needs an internet connection (e.g. weather app) it won't get the most recent data.

Thanks so much Tom - Love the iphone since i got it in May or so, not so sure about this side of things though :o

So, for that reason the facebook app won't work because its a constant feed of updates... I see!:D

Always have a google for some free wifi spots in the neighbourhood you'll be staying in. You'll be bound to pick some up.
