Activision Allows COD: Black Ops Dedicated Servers but There's a Catch

well. COD itself was just a poor knock off of the original WWII game ( wolfenstein. The benchmark in shooter games imho )

either way, hosting servers shall be fun namely with vac bans, but there'll still be hackers unless they make a Real good effort.

    :(

christ...they give us dedicated servers and then absolutely retard it by insisting on using VAC...
Punkbuster can be bad but christ on a stick..VAC sucks balls and I don't think I've ever seen it catch a hacker or aimbot user...

sorry but vac is better than punkbuster.

Reason 1: it uses a delayed banning system (Hence why YOU haven't seen people getting banned when they join a server). Why is this good you may ask ? Well, because it means cheaters often don't realise that the hack they are using is infact detected, therefore more cheaters are caught, with punkbuster as soon as a cheat is detectable people will stop using it and use a newer version.

Reason 2: Vac is a server-side program, this brings with it a lot less game issues that you often get with PB.

Both AC's are quite easy to get past but sooner or later vac will catch you, you'd just have to be very careful with PB'er.

I'd much prefer that the cheater is stopped at the gates rather than destroying a whole game and then getting caught.
Found PB is far better than VAC..sure there are some hackers that slip through but a lot less than you see in VAC...
Plus VAC screwed up MW2 for a lot of players this year when the host used a certain hack it screwed up your game so it's not so secure either.
Nearly every 2nd MW2 I play has a hacker in it..while BF2/BC2 which use PB I might see a hacker every 10-20 games or so.

Your wrong again and missed the point i made. PB does not stop cheaters, only stupid cheaters. Most cheaters will check to make sure the hack they are using is still vac/PB proof, if its PB they wont use the cheat... doesn't mean they wont go and use an undated version (Hacks are released on a daily basis). Vac leaves that window open for a few weeks to catch as many cheaters as possible.

Therefore it isnt stopping them, its just forcing them to use updated hacks, vac didn't screw up MW2, IW did. Theres not an awful lot that can be done when IW refuse to use dedi's, hacking when the entire system is peer to peer makes it alot easier and if PB was used it would be no different.

If VAC is so good then tell me why are they so many hackers still in CSS, HL2, MW2..
VAC might put out statements like what you claim but it's fairly obvious that VAC doesn't work...every code worth his salt knows how VAC operates so therefore since they know that VAC hasn't closed out v1 of a aimbot they're not going to release v2 till VAC closes the first one...it's a never ending battle.
mind you PB is no genius either..both have their flaws and there will always be hackers in games.

I never said it was that good, just that its better than PB. Again you fail to understand how VAC works.. its getting quite tiring having to repeat this so i'll say it once more...

    -"Cheat v1" is released
    -Vac is updated
-1 Month later there will be a mass ban, banning everyone that has used "Cheat v1" during that month

Its never going to stop every cheater, but would you risk cheating again after you get banned ? Having to pay for a new copy of whatever game your playing.

Thats also another reason why there are more cheaters in CS/CSS, because the games are very cheap and because of how big the competitive community is compared to BFBC2/CoD4, a new copy of cs is only $5 so its not that big a deal if you got caught.

Again im not saying VAC is awesome or anything, just that its better than PB

Dedicated server admins + ability to record video footage which is already in COD BO should mean BO is a lot better than MW2. If admins are smart, fair and dont jump to conclusions dedicated servers should be (means will be) so much better than the mess that was IWNET.

MW2 on the PC was a farce with all the hackers, glitchers and hacked lobbies. With the VAC system of bans, a month+ is a long time for an already caught hacker to run rampant, think of how many games he can ruin in this timeframe. They need more regular updates (i.e. every week at least) or it's ineffective.

Auto punkbuster bans are only one part of of PB, there's also the efforts of dedicated server admins banning cheaters based on videos and demos. Servers streaming to sites like punkbusted, pbbans etc have an extra ban list of players that is constantly being updated. PB > VAC imo.

On a side note, the new dedicated server admins in COD7 will surely go ban crazy after their experiences of MW2. Hackers aside, anyone half decent/with a good killstreak/using lame tactics will be probably be banned.

Possibly, however anyone who has adminned for a while should know what to look for. We have a server ordered for the day of release but will admin it as fair as possible.

    Interesting reading this.

I picked up MW2 and was pretty sick the pc version didnt have dedicated servers and there was alot of bull****, animosity and cheating.

So I went and grabbed myself alteriwnet.

Mature community, dedicated servers, on scene admins, stand up honourable community.

I paid for the game but im using an open source online service. Its made the game ten times better and gave it new life.

Its something amazing when you see people congratulating on good games and good shots,
