How do I recover files from an old hard drive?

I forgot the password to my old desktop computer. I didn't really want the computer, but I desperately want the files I had saved on it. So I removed the hard drive and dumped the desktop (it was ancient, like year 2000 ancient).

Does anyone know the best way to go about getting my files off the drive?

thats simply: plug it into another computers motherboard as a second hdd, and copy your precious stuff :)

^ and set the jumper on the hard drive from master to slave... There should be instructions on the disk itself..

Buy a usb caddy ,ide ,plug in wait 3 mins, it,ll show up as drive e or f .Put tape on the drive pcb, underneath, to protect it from short circuits, or static .
or install inside pc as slave drive .
