Rules for a scramble

Just wondering what are the main rules in a scramble. Have not played this format before. I understand that each player tees off and best shot is chosen and all 4 members of the team then play next shot from there.

The main thing i'm wondering is where you place your ball in relation to the chosen one, is it a clublength or what?

Also when on the green, where do you place your ball in relation to the chosen one?

Generally, you can place your ball in a scramble, within 6 inches not nearer the hole.

It's not a recognised format for golf, so the rules from club to club can vary a little.

Once on the green, putt in any order.

In most of the scrambles I've played, the rules have been:

All 4 tee-off, then choose the best drive (though usually you will need either 3 or 4 drives per player over the 18 holes depending on the competition rules). Once the best drive is chosen, the player whose ball it is marks the ball location (usually by putting a tee in the ground within 6 inches). That player then plays his shot. Each subsequent player then places a ball within one club length of where the drive was (as marked by the tee in the ground), no closer to the hole. (If the chosen drive is in rough or a hazard, the other players must play from the same conditions even if the fairway is within a club length.)

Once on the green, the player whose ball is chosen putts first (first marking the ball position prior to putting). One important thing to remember in scramble is that the first ball in the hole is counted as the score, so DONT HOLE OUT tap in putts if one of your team has still to play.

Not much else to say really.
