UPC HD Cisco box freezing on startup

Hi there, sorry if this has been dealt with before but a trawl through threads did not immediately find anything ....

I have the UPC HD service but it has started intermittently freezing when I turn it on. When it freezes I get no signal via hdmi cable to the tv and the remote won't change channels or go to the guide. I can use the remote to turn off the box but then it won't turn on again until I flick the switch on the back.

I spoke with an engineer (very nice person, no complaints there) and was told that it happens to some customers and there's nothing anyone can do about it. At this stage it happens maybe 50% of the time. If the box boots correctly then there's no further probs until the next time.

Does this ring a bell with anyone? Many thanks for taking a moment on this.

It is quite an old thread but maybe someone has a solution for that...
My one was workin OK for couple of months, then it behaved as old gregg's and casio4's but now it is getting riddiculus. I have to unplug and restart it every time I want to watch telly and sometimes even couple of times. Today I gave up and decided to watch dvd instead. I am going to call UPC on Monday and hope they will offer me something else then... 'have you reset your mediabox?' approach

    Same here for me.

Gave them a call this morn. Apparently they are aware of the problem... told me to... restart the box :D but they have sent some sort of testing signal to my box at the same time. The nice lady I was on the phone with told me that in case this has not fixed it she will book a technician to visit me and sort it out for me. So far so good. Fingers crossed!

Got Mutiroom in during the week and the new box freezes all the time!

Is one a HD box and the other a non hd digital+ box?. Which box is it happening on?.

A similar recent problem with my own multiroom(one is a HD box the other a non-hd digital+ box and the install was about April of this year) digital+ box is that it goes on standby soon after your watching a dvd on another external or not watching tv and then actually powers itself off entirely with the red light going out. I need to plug the box out and in again. Before it powers itself off and when plugged back in you can hear fans start to boot in as if cooling fans. It has only started happening in the last couple of days and about once or twice a day. I wonder has anyone encountered this problem.

No they are both Digital HD, the screen just freezes and I need to plug it out and back in. Never realised how loud these boxes are either!

Sadly it is still happening so I am waiting patiently for their engineer to come visit me and get the problem sorted.

They should not be that loud,if they are,the Harddrive might be loose and the only was to fix that,is to get UPC to replace the box.

Just posted on another thread. My UPC box is dead now in the mornings, no response to remote, no lights on. Needs power cycled to get it going. This started happening after software upgrades. Anyone have this problem?? Its a non HD box.

This was happening on my multi room non hd box. Go to the settings and you will see something like "Turn to standby when not active" which is enabled. You have the option to change to 'At night' or 'disable or 'turn off''. select disable or turn off.

I had a similar problem and initially my only solution was to cycle power to the box.

However since I disabled the auto stand by; I can't recall the exact menu entry, but basically it's the one that sets the box to power down if inactive or no button pressed.

Bottom line since I disabled that option the problem has gone away.

My box died on Friday and they wont be out till Wednesday  The red power light in blinking and screen says "software upgrade in process"

After a quick google it seems to be a common enough fault with these boxes.

Just said tough sh1te really. The boxes do not have access compartments/removable disks like a laptop. That would be too convenient and clever wouldnt it.
