This is a feature. Turn off "dragging" and "drag lock" in the Trackpad preferences. I assume you want "tap to click" on, yes?

Do you want to delete them? If not, with the external hd connected, move them back to where they were on the external hd. Or else, if you do want to delete them, empty the trash and they'll be gone.

Whenever you move something to the trash it is actually getting moved to an invisible folder called .trash on the hard drive it is stored on. So there's a .trash folder on your internal hd and another one on your external hd. The trash folder on OS X's Dock shows the contents of all these .trash folders (they are really just shortcuts). This is why if you move something from an external hd to the trash without emptying it, and then disconnect the hard drive, it will disappear from the trash. Make sense?

    Read what I wrote above.

If you don't want to delete them, connect the external hd and move the files out of the trash.
