Anyone got any experience of these? They look the business and Im seriously considering getting one (especially now that Ive got my head around MAME!). Anyone know if they are any good or worth the money? Anything similar that would be recommended instead?

I used to own one. I then took it apart for the buttons and sticks! Good to get you started before you step up to a cabinet but they can be pricey....
I'm sure some of the lovely folks here can provide you with alternatives you can also consider.

I would give my eye teeth for a cabinet but unforunately I neither have the funds nor the space for one at the moment! Some day...

They are decent enough but if you are using it for fighting games you would be better off with the Mad Catz Fight sticks or Tournament edition sticks. I'd go for a fight stick, it's cheaper and the parts are cheaper but you can exchange the buttons and sticks for better ones very easily.

I have the single player version of the x-arcade and it works great for Mame (a big step up from say the xbox 360 pad if you was using that). I got one of the very first batches of x-arcades which connected via PS/2 so had to get new connection to convert it to USB, but all new ones these days would be USB so you wouldn't have to worry about that. But they seem a pretty good build and should last. You can also get adapters to use them with any consoles you might have if thats even a factor for you?

I've never tried any of the fight sticks but I would have thought the top ones are more expensive and do they connect to only one type of machine? Suppose go with whatever your budget stretches too.

I don't use mine anymore since I got my cab but it has some sentimental value so I couldn't sell it on unfortunately.

I have the double version and have had for several years. It's a very solid heavily built piece of kit and great if you don't have space for a large cabinet. Perfect for MAME.

Bought mine in the US several years ago.

I tried one of the Mad Catz sticks a while back and wasnt overly impressed by it (I think it was Mad Catz; the Street Fighter 4 sticks yeah?). Ill check out the Hori stick and see if Game have any.

Theres something I like about the X-Arcade; its looks like it belongs on a cabinet or something. Maybe I will go for one; no harm in getting myself an early Christmas present :D

They're good fun but the sticks aren't snappy enough. Feel a little sluggish. It's perfect for playing about with MAME, but in general I've found I'm doing a lot better at games with a Seimitsu stick. Just feels a lot more responsive.

TBH you won't get better than the two madcatz sticks. I've used an X-arcade and it just doesn't feel right after using a fightstick and tournament edition stick. The buttons and stick are just so much better quality. Saying that though the X-arcade is perfectly serviceable for mame play but if you are going to take fighting games seriously, you'll need something better.

I went looking for the Mad Catz stick today and the only one I could fine was €160 bundled with SF4!!! Ill take a look at them online and see what I can find.

Probably a tournament stick. Fightstick is much cheaper and even though the parts aren't as good you can swap them out very easily. Shipping might be a problem on line. I seen a few going cheap when the super SF4 branded sticks came out.

There's a slightly modded Madcatz TE on Adverts now:

    Friend of mine.

New TEs are regularly available for €100 online.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I ended up picking up a Hori Fighting Stick 3 (PS3 stick but seems to work perfectly well with XP and Windows 7) yesterday in Gamestop, which Ive been pretty impressed with so far. I initially bought it with the intention of saving up for something a little more expensive when funds become available, but its doing the job for me so I may well stick with it!

Certain emulators dont seem to recognise POV for the stick, so thats my next challenge...

    Pretty much this.

The main reason I bought my Tournament Edition stick was to have a cheap arcade-cabinet style controller for any old games I could run on my PC.

The other upside is I got slightly better at inputting fireballs in Street Fighter. :D

i have a 360 TE stick in perfect nick, still boxed and am happy to sell if anyone's looking. It's practically new, i never use it & it's gathering dust, so make me a decent offer via PM if you're interested.

I will match/beat whatever price is going online and deliver to dublin area. Will also accept part payment & swop for an XBOX 360 madcatz fightpad if anybody has one (i need a spare, my main one is starting to get worn out looking). Will throw in an octo gate, 2x button blanks, and a bat top and adaptor for the stick if anyone's interested in modding it to be closer to the euro standard.

Hori and the newer Mad Cats sticks are much better. X-Arcade need to get their act together. Such average sticks and they haven't changed in 10 years.
