Friend is heading to the Tour de Picnic and needs to get her gear to the start. Would a taxi take her bike along with the gear?...

Yeah, it shouldn't be a problem. I have used taxi few times and they took the bicycle without an issue. Only thing is that you need to find one of the big 7-seaters, I don't think the normal sedan will fit a bike.

I've twice taken a taxi with a bike and there's been no problems. If you're booking, I'd inform them of it beforehand just to be sure.

I've gotten ones from the side of the road - off come my wheels, and everything into the boot, no problem.

Just to add - no extra charges apply to bikes in taxis.

Now that the most popular form to call a taxi is to use hailo, one can just specify we need a 6+ seater, but there is no way to tell the driver it's for a transporting one passenger and a bike. Anyone done this with hailo?

When you click the hailo button, you'll see "options" , click that and select number of passengers. I think it's fair to say if you're selecting a taxi that can take 6 or 8 ppl then it will comfortably hold a bicycle.

Every single time I asked for a taxi that will accommodate a bike (various companies) the driver was completely unaware of this when he arrived.

Some were nice and tried to help, others not at all - one even charged me extra for using a rag to protect the interior... there was also another one I got into some shouting with - at the end told him to feck off and reported to the company.

I got stranded with a torn sidewall before, ordered a 7 seater on Hailo, guy turned up, said 'no chance' and drove off. Other times, it's been fine, but I wasn't a 8km walk from civilisation, whilst wearing cleats the other times.

Thanks for the reports, good to know it's not always a no. I want to start cycling from Lucan to Ballsbridge, thinking about going down the canal, but I'm not fit to do a long cycle yet.
