Just two days to go to the next big race in County Wexford.....

And to be clear, I'm a member of the organising club - and this is very much a no profit race (probably like a lot of club races in the country, it's a loss making venture)

Details below - anyone not doing the national half marathon on Sunday should definitely give this a second thought as is always a decent little race

The next big road running event in County Wexford takes place this coming Saturday (September 4th) as Sliabh Buidhe Rovers AC will stage the Mick Murphy memorial four miles road race and fun run. The run will start at 5-30pm, with entries being taken in Ferns community centre from 4pm. However, online entries can still be made on www.runireland.com. There are changing facilities in the community centre. The race is open to runners, joggers and walkers alike - everyone is more than welcome to enter. Post race refreshments will be in The Courtyard, Ferns, with a video of the race and prizegiving then taking place in The Thatch pub. There will be cash prizes for top finishers and entrants should nominate their age category at registration. The leading athletic club team (four to score) will receive the Mick Murphy memorial cup and there is always strong competition for this with the home club, Slaney Olympic and Tinryland among those that usually fight for the title. This year will, for the first time see the presentation of the E.T. Doyle cup for the first SBR athlete home so there is sure to be keen competition here. There is also a prize for the first non-athletic club team (three to score). All entrants will receive a goody bag and there will be numerous spot prizes for down the field finishers.

    them's fighting words RB:D

ah no if ye come down and take all our prizes with decent runs we'll be the first to congratulate ye, but there won't be anything given to ye on a plate:p

i'm biased of course, but i find this a right little race every year - like lots of country races, it has something for everyone at a great price that lots of the expensive races miss out on........ the grub ain't half bad after either;)

Great race this evening in Ferns, it was damp but the rain held off for the event thankfully. The largest ever field (by some way) turned out, so thanks to everyone for running. Results are at this link http://www.athleticswexford.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=300:mick-murphy-four-mile-results&catid=5:about-wexford-athletics&Itemid=3
they are only provisional as we wanted to get them up quickly so they will be checked and corrected in the coming days. Cheers BB
