Just noticed yesterday that the speed of my wipers is much slower than normal. Even when I put them on high, they still move across the screen very slowly. Only been happening since yesterday and no obvious sign of anything going wrong.

Are the motors on the way out or could it be a relay somewhere that needs to be replaced? Car is an '03 A4.

What condition is your battery in?

Do they run fine when lifted off the glass?

Battery is fine, not much more than a year old.

They run slow even when the wipers are lifted off the glass, tried that this morning.

From reading around on the forums, it seems that the linkages can sieze up. Just seems odd that it wasn't gradual if that's the problem. They worked fine a few days ago, was like an overnight thing that they are now very slow.

Wiper motor could be stuffed, good auto spark is your best bet.

I would put any money it's the wiper linkage siezing. Notorious on Audi's especially the A4 & A3. Happened on mine and three other peoples I know well. Two of which were 04, one 03 and one 02. Have any look around online not a massive job to do urself can clean down the parts you remove and file/sand and refit.

I've had something similar happen on an Opel Astra years ago, the earth connection from the wiper motor where it was screwed onto the body work had corroded. A quick cleanup with some emory cloth and it was good as new.

Thanks folks, was the linkage siezed up. Got a new part fitted today and working fine. Emptied the wallet though between the new part and labour. Had to be done though, hadn't the time nor the tools to do it myself.

So I was right - knew there were seized always the same with the vags and slow wipers.

So how much of a dent did it put in the wallet?
How much was the part and labour on top?
