Commission welcomes industry's commitment to provide a common charger for mobile phones

Fourteen months later, all the others are doing their bit. Are Apple going to bother about this at all?

Ignore it, I would imagine. As it does a lot more than just charge.

They'll have to comply as this has gone from voluntary commitment to European directive. Adapters won't satisfy either.

There's nothing the 30 pin connector can do that Micro USB can't.

Except make pots of money for Apple!

There's nothing in the press release which says that. A 30-pin connector with a MicroUSB slot will do just fine.

Apple aren't alone in this, most of the manufacturers have been using proprietary connectors for years, so in order to maintain backwards compatibility with docks, handsfree kits, earphones, etc, they will have to use adapters while they phase out the old standards.
