Short and sweet, that course is amazing. Especially for the price (20quid). Played today for first time, I've played plenty of courses over here on your Emerald Isle and I'd rate that in the top 5 so far for sure.

If only it was 20 minutes closer to the M50...

Disclaimer - have absolutely nothing to do with the place, just enjoyed it so much, though they deserved a shout out.

    p.s. played ****e too!

Ive played it quite a bit this year - my mate lives in Enfield!
Cant go wrong for that price and there are some really nice holes on it too! The 3rd, 5th, 11th and 16th being my favourites!

Definately worth at least one round - and you'll probably enjoy it and be back for more! ;)

I wasnt a big fan i have to say...too many blind drives and slopey fairways for me. Impossible on a windy day unless you know the course well.

Probably my favourite course at any price. Many enjoyable and memorable holes. I love the par 3s, the short par 4s with water at the front, the dogleg around the ring fort, the 14th 15th, 18th. So that's nearly every hole then.

Havent played it in a while but played it around 4/5 times in the space of a year when it wasn't long open and I really loved it... Might try find and excuse to get back down there before the year is out...

Love Rathcore. Haven't been up there in a few months, but is excellent value and I don't think membership is too expensive.

I joined Rathcore earlier this year and I must say it is an excellent 'track'.
    Excellent T boxes and Greens.
Indeed, the fairways and bunkers are always in pristine condition.
One has to think their way around - it's not always the Driver off the T! Course management comes into play on most holes.
As for value - consider this -
right now the annual sub is 859 for Men and 445 for Ladies.
For me it has the complete package including a superb club house
and I've yet to get a poor meal!

Yeah, I could see it would be very tricky when the wind gets up. Funny you mention the blind tee shots - as that's one thing that I normally hate as well - but it didn't really occur to me on the day. Was lucky to play with someone who had good course knowledge and also the weather was fantastic, which always makes a course seem 30% better.

But I loved the elevation changes, the fact that no two holes are alike and the condition is great. The membership fees, as mentioned above, are superb too, it's just too far out for me personally. (and I'd do about 30 quid a week in watery-graved golf balls!)

Playing Beech Park tomorrow- another first - so hopefully can say good things about that place. You guys sure do have some gorgeous tracks over here.

Yeah I felt that more than a couple of times I hit great drives and lost the ball as it rolled/bounced somewhere that was hidden from the tee.

BeechPark is a nice track, Ive played it a good few times.
Let me take a moment to pimp my own course :), Grange in Rathfarnham. We are right in the middle of our Captains Prize so the course is in its best state ever.

Definitely a nice course(s) alright, but I'm trying to play loads of courses with a view to joining a new one for 2011 and don't fancy the 22K (gulp) joining fee! If you know of someone who wants to sell their yearly 'ticket' for 2K, PM me and I'll gladly do that:D

I work in Cherrywood, live in Tyrellstown and don't mind driving 30 mins or so. Luttrelstown and Castleknock are bringing out new pricing deals this month and they're about top of the pile I think.

These days you can also buy a Carton House member's yearly 'ticket' from them for about 2K and Druids is 4K so fingers crossed, the pricing all round looks to be coming down even further.

Taken the thread completely off topic now so apols for that... but I'm new.;)

Snowy, someone mentioned decent prices at Headfort a couple of weeks ago and depending on how fast you drive they're around 30 mins from Tyrrelstown (It took us <30 mins). Anyways, I've probably just derailed the topic further :P

You are the OP so you have free reign to take the thread wherever you want :)

+1 for Headford, 2 courses and the new is very nice.
I heard that either druids or k club is also down a lot, but cant confirm.
I would expect that €22 to drop next year, problem might be getting places though, we took in a lot this year, more than that last 10 years combined I think!

GreeBo I had heard of a lot of new members getting into Grange, quite a few juniors aswell. If the club drop the entrance fee will it not piss of the people who got in this year? Any idea of the proposed new entrance fee?

OP, Southcounty are offering really good deals at present.

I think 16 got in this year which is unheard of.
No one can really be pissed off IMO, they could have waited for it to get cheaper, but there is no chance they will get in. I sincerely doubt there will be that many places this year as the timesheet is noticeably fuller these days so we must be near the club limit for ordinary members.
However its possible that as people move to 5 or 6 day that spaces will open up for 7 day.

Thanks for all the suggestions lads.

South County is good track but just a little too far and unplayable more than other courses in the winter, imo.

Headfort againis just that little bit too far.

I actually received a mail from the marketing guy at Castleknock today about their new membership rates and it's pretty impressive. I've asked him if it's ok for me to put it up here (ie, is it completely written in stone).

Luttrelstown are also coming back to me next week with their new offer, if it's close to Castleknocks, it's gonna be a hard choice. It's really down to those two now, I'd imagine.

And seeing as I can take the thread anywhere I like (cheers Bo:D), played Beechpark yesterday - as warm-up for this weekends intermediate Scratch Cup. Perfect weather, nice track (back nine better than front for sure) imo but the pin positions and slopey, shaved greens were maybe the hardest I've played this year!! Hitting lob wedge from 90y (downhill 10th) into green, dropped on front and rolled 25 yards off back of green - sickening!

Anyway, tks again for all your replies chaps.

Incorrect, quite the opposite in fact, rarely closes and has excellent drainage and frost course :p

Fair enough, it's just that when I played it last year, it was covered in snow and frost whereas course closer to town were less affected. But I bow to your superior knowledge ;)

Played there yesterday for the first time. Really liked it. €25 for a Saturday was pretty pleasing also.:)
Being a sunny day helped a lot.
Fairway was a bit wet in places, but the greens were in great condition. Some lovely approach shots to some of the greens. Water in front of the green is always a nice challenge.
    Still played crap though.
