Transferring course Q's!

I'm semi-pondering transferring to a different course. What I'm wondering is how long does it take for the transfer to go through? Like can your transfer be approved prior to the closing date? It's just I'm not sure if I want to change after starting the years lectures for another course - I'd like to start out straight away in the course I'd change to. Also re: the fact their needs to be an availability of spaces on the course - how strict are they on this as are most courses (as in JF from cao entrants) not full anyway?! Thanks!

It really depends on the course you're transferring to. Obviously you'd need to have the points, you need to go through your tutor (if you're just going into first year now, you'll get your tutor's details in the post in the next week or so, and you can email/call them then), and there'll need to be a free spot.

Although this page is for the tutors themselves, it gives a lot of useful information, especially the following:
While every effort will be made to allow adequately qualified students to change course, it will not be possible to permit a transfer into a course which already has a full complement of students. In the case of Junior Freshman transfers students will not be permitted to transfer if they do not have sufficient points for the course into which they are seeking to transfer. Students should consult the Admissions web-site http://www.tcd.ie/Admissions/undergraduate/ for details of the minimum entry levels for all courses before submitting their application.

All students who are being considered for a transfer to the first year of another course should register for the course to which they were admitted.

Under no circumstances should students register or attend lectures for a course until their application to transfer has been formally approved by the Senior Lecturer.

Have a look at the page I linked, and hopefully that'll help. Just contact your tutor as soon as you can, and they can go through the process with you. :)

OP are you only going into your first year of Trinity? If so you can apply for an internal transfer up until November. Preferably you should do this as soon as possible. For me the closing date ( I think) was before reading week. You have to go to admissions, tell them you want to transfer. They print off your details, and a transfer form to fill out, and o be signed by your tutor. Then you have to wait until they decide whether to allow you to do so. Get in contact with the year coordinators and heads of departments as well.

That's the only experience of transferring course, that I have. Good luck anyway! Just be persistent with admissions, and show that you're serious about the course you want to change to.

    Thank you!

Yea I have the points & I'm going into first year - though I'm not a new entrant I had to go off books last yr.

I'll get on to them in admissions & I better ring my tutor, I don't think he's really into email!! :)
