It looks like they are putting traffic lights on the Condell rd at the LWR shelbourne rd corner. They have also cut down some of the trees on the left just passed the bridge.Maybe know the bus lane will be used.

I read sometime back that they were planning on doing this. Another obstacle to encourage traffic to use the tunnel instead me thinks.

It's badly need there IMO,trying to get onto the condell road from there can be hell sometimes.

I don't know, traffic is chronic there in the morning and it's a bad spot to cross the road if you want to get to the river. With the tunnel there should be less traffic on that road.

Also, it's very rare to see the incoming traffic obeying the speed limit on that stretch of road (understandable since they've just left a dual carriageway onto a good road), their speed makes turning out of the Shelbourne road difficult.

Agreed, something like this has been needed at that junction for years.

Maybe I'm a bit paronoid but I just find it amazing that all these sets of traffic lights pop up along the Dock road, etc over the last couple of years while the tunnel was being constructed yet for ages before the tunnel project was announced there was no traffic lights needed or justified?

If the tunnel is to take 25,000 vehicles out of the city centre as claimed when it opened then why do they need a new set of traffic lights only now?

They couldn't have been installed until the tunnel was open due to the volume of traffic, now that there is less traffic using the Condell road it makes sense to install them. People can still avoid the tunnel if they want.

Last time I was out at Coonagh during the morning rush hour the traffic was backed up onto the dual carriageway, you couldn't install lights when that volume is already being held up.

As a result, the small roundabout by Salesians was a complete disaster, every morning. The lights have been needed for a long time, imo. (or at least, some sort of solution was needed there, we'll see if this works)

if drivers would move out quicker from Shelbourne Rd it'd be much better for traffic flow. Every single time when I come to that junction in traffic from Condel road side I slow down and flash the driver to move out, 9 times out of 10 driver is looking around, not actually watching for gaps. Same for people coming over the bridge wanting to turn right at same junction.

Definitely planners are trying to push everyone onto the tunnel but its not a viable option for alot of people. Its a good thing for the students trying to cross the road though - was a disaster waiting to happen up to this.

If have the situations where lights have been placed they could have used a roundabout, two new sections on the dock road pretty damn close to each other have traffic lights - its a disgrace

Fantastic idea and about time too, people coming in the Condell road usually doing 60/70 k an hour. I think it should have been put in years ago when they first built the Condell Road.

I've stopped using that junction recently because of those lights, come and go through the back of the greyhound track now, don't know the name of the road. If I'm coming into town, I turn right at the junction just before the Collins pub that was burned out and it bring me out at Johns Hospital, the reverse coming out of town.

The trick is to turn right before you come to St Johns!
