Cycling Clubs in Cork

Been cycling now for two years, and only really serious since march or april this year. Have seen massive improvements in my ability but still think i could get much better.

Completed 5 sportives this year all between 130 and 160km and have all been around the 6 hour mark.

Really want to cut down that time and i reckon the only way of getting stronger will be from cycling with much better cyclists than me,which i presume you would find in a club.

So basically im looking for advice on the best clubs in or around Cork City and if possible get chatting to a few members..

Thanks in advance for the advice

I hooked up with a bunch from Youghal CC at the Sean Kelly Tour and found them a great bunch catering for a range of abilities. Well worth considering if it's in your neck of the woods.

    Hiya Murf,
Not sure where you are living but I've started cycling with the Carrigdhoun club (carrigaline). Very friendly bunch of lads but defo more of a leisure club (none of the lads race although a couple of stong lads) who do around 120k every Sunday morning.

Im in Glanmire myself so would be aiming for something around the city preferably.

We Do have 3 or four who head out most weekends but was hoping to join a club to get more regular spins, especially over the winter. Id feel id have to get up on those cold/wet mornings especially when a group is depending on you to show..

You just want to show off your new bike.

No. I just badly need to find a proper set of legs to be able to use it :D

St. Finbarrs Cycling Club is a Cork City based and they focus strongly on racing.

Presumably this is a good time of the year to join a club as the racing season is nearly over?

St. Finbarrs, Midleton & The Edge are probably all the ones that would be closest to you. I think I need to do some more basic fitness & strength stuff before I'd feel comfortable moving to a club. Was around here this evening, about 1h 50.

Yeah iv emailed the edge, blarney and the barrs so il see what they come back with. I reckon if i dont join someone during the winter il probably go backwards, and be back to square one.

First trip up around wicklow mountains?
