My current laptop is slowly dying I'm afraid:( I start college in a couple of weeks and have a budget of €450 max to get a laptop. I would only be using it for internet browsing and college work. I came across the acer 5542 on Argos for €419 and have it reserved. Could I do better than this for the same or less money? Is the battery life good on it. Have read a few reviews and most are good but I want to be sure I'm getting a good deal before I go for it. Cheers.

Here are the specs. CPU and Memory:
    • AMD Athlon 2 dual core M300.
    • 2GHz processor speed.
    • 1MB cache.
    • 4GB DDR2 RAM memory.
    • 250GB hard drive.

    Display features:
    • 15.6in display.
    • Resolution 1366 x 768 pixels.

    DVD optical drives:
    • Dual layer.

    Graphics:
    • Dedicated ATI Radeon HD 4330 graphics card with 256MB memory.

    Thanks in advance:)

That would be fine for a student but throw 60-80 euro on top for office which you will need for college

Realistically your not going to get a better deal with your budget and it does everything you have requested

Thanks:) Been humming and hawing all morning about it but think I'll go for it. I've searched everywhere I can both online and instore, and there seems to be nothing comparable to it in the same price range although I was also considering the TOSHIBA 15.6" INTEL CELERON 2GB 160HDD L500-1XL for €399 on powercity http://www.powercity.ie/?action=&par=10-30&cat=LAPTOP+COMPUTER.

This is true however MS office is the standard and unless the lecturer has open office installed they will not be able to read the openoffice files she shares.

You can save the files as Microsoft word documents
