    Often get sparks off a driver but can't imagine they would ever ignite anything. You'd think he'd have noticed and stamped it out before it went blazing! Although sayin that.. there's a few patches of rough on my course I wouldn't mind doing away with ha.

    dropping a half finished cigar in the rough is pretty common though
    only a matter of time before we lose a gem to a raging inferno

    no fear of it happening over here with all the rain we get.

    grass will always be damp

    not true.
    there were numerous bog fires in ireland during may / june 2010.

    no reason why a club cant go up in flames too.
    it is very worrying.

    are there fire extinguishers designed for golfers yet?

    Apparently there are, although they are indistinguishable from those designed for non-golfers.

    if i was chair of a course i'd introduce a complete course wide ban of smoking..

    anyone caught with a lighter on the ground etc would be fined

    the safety of golfers is paramount
    It is a risky enough game as it is without adding to the possibilities

    You cannot ban smoking on the golf course. Civil liberties and all that.

    Any golf course that is allowed to get THAT dry, has bigger problems to worry about IMO

    private members club
    civil liberties go out the window - one must obey or find a new club
