Hi. I'm looking at buying a deutx 1993 6.16 and was wondering if anyone has any experience of these tractors? Are there any problems that In should be wary of? The one that I've looked at has a slight issue with the lift control in that the lift lever will not stay in the raised position when you take your hand off unless you use the locking screw. As a result, the lift drops.
The onlu other issue which I've noticed is that the clutch pedal must be half pressed before the clutch begins to engage. The pedal can easily be pressed to this point with the hand. The chap selling the tractor said that it is a result of play and movement in the clutch cable.

    Any help would be apprciated.

    John

If i were you i would stay away from Deutz. Now im biased as i have nothing but problems with them. Including clutch more or less exploding, crown wheel & pinion and Diff.

i wouldnt agree about staying away from deutz tractors . they are a good solid reliable tractor. as with any secondhand tractor it will depend on how well it was maintained and what kind of drivers it had. there are several of the old type deutzs working around my area and they have a good reputation.

I'd disagree fairly strongly, I've had 7 Deutz tractors and never had major problems with any of them. The 6.16 is fairly bomb proof, the only real weak point would be the dry brakes but they shouldn't cause a problem as long as they're not abused. The clutch probably isn't a big problem, the cable is easily replaced and even a new clutch isn't a particularly big job. They're a straightforward tractor to work on in general, everything is mechanically controlled so there are no electrics to go wrong. For a tractor of that age and horsepower a 6.16 would be one of your better bets.
