I'm sorry to hear your friend's news.

That's a very nice idea about the hairdo, but to be honest in a lot of cases the hair will start falling out very soon, like 2 weeks after the first chemo so she won't have much time to enjoy it. However, if she is to lose all her hair she may want to get a wig and might appreciate your help in choosing/buying one? There are blonde ones that she could try out and see what they are like - and then when her hair regrows afterwards she could get the same colour!

This place is good for wigs - the website also has info about what to expect in terms of hair loss etc Snips Wigs

If your pal is sure she wants to get her hair dyed before the chemo, perhaps you could try one of the student classes in the hairdressers? All the big chains usually do them.

Wishing your friend a speedy recovery.. You're a good mate :)

I know this might sound wrong but have you asked her if her treatment will result in alopecia? Some treatment doses don't cause hairloss.

I think getting her a quality wig (or a couple of cheap ones) would be a much more useful way of spending your cash though I may be undervalueing the joys of being pampered pre-treatment.

If her therapy causes complete alopecia then eyebrows too dissapear. There are specilist eyebrow wigs out there and this place is just one of many outlets where you'll be able to get some.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

My mam had to get chemo last year and her hair would be naturally white/greyish. She was told not to use dye during the treatment but since then she has been using Casting successfully. There is one you can buy with no ammonia or peroxide - its not the Casting gloss stuff - I generally only see it in boots in Jervis - its about 9e. She uses the lightest blonde colour.

Its very gentle and washes out after 6 weeks - Im not sure if getting a harsh chemical dye would be the best. Mam didnt lose all her hair but she had a massive thick bush and it did get very light. She washed it as little as possible to avoid breakage as it was so brittle and kept it tied up.

The reason they dont recommend dyeing your hair during chemo is that you dont know how the dye will react with all the chemicals in your body. If she has a brown permanent colour in at the minute I'd just leave things be - there will be a lot of stress on her hair with the chemo and I think it would be more important to her to preserve the hair she has rather than go blonde and be unsure of what would happen.

    Hope everything works out x
