just wondering would it be possible to install a side plate on a Real Sword type 56 so that I could mount apk-as or a kobra red dot on it?

You would need to drill some holes in the receiver to do so, but its possible. You may want to do it to a russian model AK instead for realism, but if you are set on the type 56, I believe the side plates come with the screws necessary.

Nice gun, i think if i owned it id be too scared to get a bb dent in that lovely wood.

I read somewhere it can take real steel scope mounts, could be wrong though.

You are mistaken my friend, there's no wood on a type 56-2,well not yet, real sword informed me that the wood furniture from the type 56 will fit i.e the pistol grip and the front hand guard.

A russian optics plate is riveted to the receiver, in airsoft screws are used, few AK's were made with them, much less the chinese models.

You could fit a ris of some sort where the foregrips are, a railed gas tube, otherwise you need to drill some holes.

Its been done before, I'd research it a bit first, you don't wanna use a shite rail or trash the receiver.

I'm sure its been done by the lads on red-alliance if you wanna ask over there, ideal forum for modded AK airsoft stuff.

Real steel scope mounts are identical to the airsoft model.

Both require the optics side plate to be fixed to the weapon's receiver.

If you dont want to drill holes, its not possible to mount it.

Unless you replace the upper handguard with a ris one, and put a regular ris optic up there... otherwise thats it... (Btw, do that and I'll eat your firstborn (yes like that spaz in twilight))

As for you Beez my dear... lovely wood they can indeed take, but, be afraid to get a bb dent in it? you think like an armalite owner...

The true AK shows its pedigree in its wear and tear, and still ultimate performance. Being a little battered, scratched and worn, is beautiful on an ak, it adds a little something...

Drilling it is entirely safe and simple... it involves 3 drillholes, just make sure its level and in the right spot first :P

    As for sexy destroyed aks...

Oh i agree completely i just would not like round unauthentic looking BB dents on it. Natural looking wear on the other hand looks great on AK's

If the wood is real laminated wood, not the chinese balsawood crap, you'd need to fire point blank into the thing to cause a vague dent... nevermind bb shaped ones... its not that soft.

Savage looking guns kitten.Ill be getting my type 56-2 in the next few weeks and hopefully the wood furniture ,mount and scope the following weeks,im not sure with scope im going to get yet, mainly because its looking more and more likely that's its going to have to be real steel. Are they dont seem to be cheap.Im torn between the pk-asv,PK-23 and the EKP-8-02.Have you any experience with Russian optics?I must pick your brain about the best way to go about weathers the gun too.If you don't mind.

the PK-ASV and PK-23 are the russian equivalents of the aimpoint, the 23 being older, asv is current issue to the ak74.
the ekp-8-02 is the kobra, with an older and newer variant. slightly older ekp-12-03m is your best bet, they can be found as low as £60 second hand, ebay is good for that... Second hand real steel are great, and the stuff is so tough, it matters little. The airsoft version ignore, its aweful.

asv and latest kobra... many pennies, 200 or so :P older models of both, just as good, only real advantages are real steel, so id go for those, pick which you prefer

I used to buy and sell real steel optics but i have no experience with anything Russian ,i like the over all spec and look of the PK-AS and 200 isnt bad for a real steel.Cheaper then what iv bought in the past. What you think the chances would be of picking one up second?
