Apple® will broadcast its September 1 event online using Apple’s industry-leading HTTP Live Streaming, which is based on open standards. Viewing requires either a Mac® running Safari® on Mac OS® X version 10.6 Snow Leopard®, an iPhone® or iPod touch® running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad™. The live broadcast will begin at 10:00 a.m. PDT on September 1, 2010 at www.apple.com.

Be interesting to see if this is the start of a consistent series of these events being streamed or just a one off.

Dave Winer suggests on Twitter that this is pretty much proof positive that streaming is going to be a big deal in the event tomorrow. Do we buy that?

No. I suspect this is just a consequence of the wifi problems Jobs experienced at the last keynote due to the live bloggers saturating the wifi signal. You can be damn sure he was pissed about it. As I and others suggested at the time, the solution was for Apple to offer a live stream and tell the bloggers to get lost. Which from the looks of it is what they've done.

Lets just hope Apple's servers can handle the traffic.

Definitely be watching, not really interested in the event itself for the most part, but curious to see how Apple's servers will handle the, most likely, massive strain...

    Where did you read this?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,806 ✭✭✭✭KeithM89_old

Just read on Twitter and because only the US site has a link to the stream

But i doubt its true....... hopefully :)

We'll find out shortly, I guess.

Rumour is that the AppleTV won't be immediately available. And the "back to school" offer doesn't end until the 7th, which means no new iPods until then. So it from the looks of it, nothing will be shipping today.

Unless the new AppleTV is really impressive (which I seriously doubt), I suspect I'm going to be very underwhelmed by these announcements. Although hopefully Steve will demo iOS 4 for iPad.

Well the US Apple Store is down apparently so something new might ship toay - the new nano's and classic probably

EDIT - so is the Irish store

They might just be putting up pre-orders though.

Doubt this is going to be releasing anything of much interest to me but it will be interesting to see if I can view it on the phone on the bus home from work.

Alanis Morrisette - You Learn :) Interesting choice.

Video is damned smooth on my UPC connection, I have to say.

Nothing more exciting than watching a bunch of people taking their seats... :)

'Bout time they did this. Surely should be done every announcement or WWDC. Couldn't be anything but beneficial to business wouldn't it?

Seems to have gone haywire... Steve was just announcing the iPod Touch and the stream changed to people taking their seats :(. Awesome.

It's okay here. Reload your stream.

$99 for the new Apple TV, pretty damn good price to be honest.
Makes it very attractive to buy compared to the old $230 price.

I assume we'll have access to what we have at the moment. i.e., not very much.

I suspect it will be a long time before that changes.

no the entire point of the promotion is to get rid of the old stock before the announcement

No. The whole point of the back to school promo is to clear their inventory of iPods. Apple do it every year. We knew there would be new iPods on September 8th.

^ PeakOutput beat me to it. :D

It's usually advised that you don't open it and sell it in advance of the announcements.

I only orderd it on sunday just incase i could could cancel the order to get the 4th gen... I might look into selling it tho if i can get enough for it.. got the 64gb one so might make something off it as it only cost 200 with rebate

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 22,693 CMod ✭✭✭✭Sad Professor

Yeah, you'll still get a good price for it. With the rebate it didn't cost you much anyway, so sell it and put it toward the new one.

The Apple TV looks good and a nice price ....but my heart stopped when I saw the new "Ping" service in ITunes 10.

As user of Last.fm for the last few years , they only gone and copied most of the features of last.fm :( the future does not look bright for last.fm.

Apple = "Take others idea's an make it our own & better "

The new Touch has a piece of crap video camera on the rear unfortunately. Not sure what the megapixel it is, less than one anyway. Alright for video, but useless as a camera.

I wonder if the TV show streaming will work on the old Apple TV with a US account. I get some of my shows with it at the moment but 99c a pop would be great.

Definitely going to get the new Apple TV I think. Considering an iPod nano to replace my iPod classic. Wristwatch style with wireless headphones perhaps.
