i just got a 2nd hand car and the steering wheel is not in the 12 o block position when the car wheels are straight. Its out by about an inch but it drives perfectly. How much would it cost to put right?

should just cost the price of tracking wherever you are, unless it's a more serious issue, mine was off and got it tracked been fine since. 45 euro

Yup tracking. Make sure they align and lock the steering wheel before the tracking. I had tracking done in Clonboo and it went from perfect to just off centre.
Don't mind much (I need new tyres soon and will get it fixed then) but it's a bug alright.

There are two posobilities, steering wheel on in the wrong place on the stering column or tracking incorrectly adjusted.
To eliminate the steering wheel positioning on the column, when stationary count (exactly) the number of turns or the steering wheel from full left lock to full right lock. (eg, 3.5 turns) then turn back exactly half the number of turns (using example 1.75 turns) and the steering wheel should be straight. If it is not get someone who knows what they are doing to correct it (beware of costly and dangerous air bag hazards)
If its OK then you need to get the tracking adjusted and this is deffo not a DIY job but most tyre centres will do it for you.
