Freeview is a UK digital terrestrial based system.

Eventually 3e might be on Irish Digital Terrestrial. Saroview, the Irish Freeview

But Irish DTT doesn't launch till 31st October 2010, Full Public lauch some time between April 2011 and December 2011. There is no date for TV3 even being on it, much less 3e, though 2012 has been mentioned.

There are four Irish Radio stations on FTA satellite (RTE1 Radio *might* be on Freesat EPG), not sure. There will not be any FTA Irish Satellite TV (Saorsat) till maybe mid 2011. You would need an HD sat receiver and a different dish specially for Saorsat.

See http://www.techtir.ie/saortv (has links to Boards.ie posts also)

There are EIGHT different Free To Air systems. Important to not confuse them.
    1. Freeview: UK Free Digital TV via aerial. Only some East/South East coast and Border areas can receive it. A Freeview box or TV has 7 day guide, possibly iPlayer in UK if box has network connection to UK broadband and Interactive. Mostly Automatic tuning. http://www.techtir.ie/saortv/freeview
    2. Freesat: A branded collection of Free To Air UK TV channels via Satellite and Dish. Similar features including automatic listing of all channels as Freeview. http://www.techtir.ie/saortv/freesat
    3. Freeview HD: Includes Freeview, but adds HD in a few areas only in UK. It is not the same channels as Freeview, though most are the same.
    4. Freesat HD: Includes Freesat, but adds some HD channels everywhere in UK. It is not the same channels as Freeview HD, though most are the same.
    5. FTA Satellite: Can tune all the Freesat channels and a few others, or if dish is moved completely different Free channels. No Interactive, no Auto tuning, No 7 day guide.
    6. Saorview: The Soon to start Irish Terrestrial Digital Service. It includes HD feature from the start. http://www.techtir.ie/saortv/saorview A UK freeview box or TV won't work. A UK Freeview HD system might partially or fully work depending on model.
    7. Saorsat: The possibly starting next year, possibly before full public launch of Saorview, Irish Satellite Service. http://www.techtir.ie/saortv/saorsat. A different dish system to that used for Sky, regular FTA or Freesat is needed. A Freesat HD set box on a suitable new dish might work. It includes HD feature from start. It's a Satellite copy of Saorview.
    8. Regular Analogue TV via Aerial, Only some Border areas can receive the UK analogue as the Welsh analogue TV has closed down. 20% of Ireland has no TV3 and 5% has no TG4. Some places need VHF aerials for RTE1 & RTE2. All digital Terrestrial (UK or Ireland), Analogue TV3 and TG4 uses ordinary UHF aerials.

There is no FTA or Freeview Cable. You get no Cable without a subscription, thus no "free" channels, but channels free on aerial or dish may be included at no extra charge.

    So this is wrong forum.

Just to update this. 3e is now available on Saorview channel 6. It is not available on any other Free-to-air system.

Sky 105 and UPC 106 as part of their basic pay TV packages.

Elmo you've been around this site long enough to know that we don't drag up old threads. Consider this a warning.
