I assume you have a Quad LNB on your sky dish with 4 cables running into it. You could update your LNB on your dish to an Octo LNB and have up to 8 cable running from the dish distributed around the house. Then buy a freesat HD branded receiver for the new room you plan to use and get these channels for free - http://www.freesat.co.uk/index.php?page=whatson.Main&PHPSESSID=9u19shjtoptqgmbtbf62uje545. Freesat boxes will auto update, auto tune channels and give a 7 day EPG (program guide).

    ***NOTE**** No RTE with freesat.

You could consider dropping UPC and one of the SKY subscriptions(maybe even both sky subs). You can still continue to use your sky box without a sub to receive BBC, ITV Channel 4 etc. For a preview power off your SKY box remove your card and power up, The EPG will have changed to the UK default and if you try to view pay channels like Sky One a pop up error will appear.

If RTE is required for you viewing you could also get an aerial and a distribution amp and run cables to the rooms. Using a DTT/Sat combo box your get RTE from the aerial and the free to air satellite channels from the dish. Depending on your location you can get Irish DTT using a set of rabbit ears antenna or indoor loft installation. 9 of the 10 the top viewed channels in Ireland are available free to air using combo boxes, the only draw back in the lack of a 7 day epg on satellite channels.

It would be a large enough initial investment for the combo boxes or freesat boxes but you'll have it paid back within a year or two.

Or you could ditch Sky and keep UPC. The Digital Max pack includes multi-room. If you want to set up a third room, UPC will charge €5 for the box. If you want the+ function it is €10 from UPC

im trying to do the same as the op. from talking around what i have got so far is sky do a sky link which will trasfer the same show from the box to room 3 or there is thing you can get from currys that does the same but there is a nice wire running from one box to the other. My orginal idea was simply transmitting the signal from one box is a recevier and using rabbits ears on the downstairs tv as mum only uses bog 1 and 2. at this stage im thinking of simply paying sky to move the box or just get a 3rd bix out in as all im seem to hear is that you will be watching the same thing on the 2 tv's. not sure about UPC singal wise and if your getting the same shows as you would on sky. any idea's

Depending on what you watch, but if i had the UPC coverage i would ditch sky (You can still use the dish and receivers for UKFTA channels) and get UPC in for all of your needs, it'll be much cheaper. Also the call outs are free with UPC, they'll replace receivers for free, with Sky its a 100€ call out to start with and you dont get nothing for free with them either!!
