I asked Iarnrod Eireann their position on this via e-mail about 2 years ago and while I can't find the reply I can remember what they said.

There is no problem with bringing on your own alcohol with you onto the train. They were planning though on serving alcohol themselves on trains and on these ones they were hoping to someone enforce the fact that only drink bought on the train be consumed on the train.

Logic dictates (my logic that is!) that they sell it to be drank on the train.. super

As it's been a couple of years since I asked them about this I don't know if they ever got around to getting the licence necessary in order to do so.

I doubt you'll have any problems really.

I dont think they give a toss about bringing beer from the offie on .I saw a group of lads a few months ago bringing 2 slabs of bulmers on ,the ticket checkers didnt give a ****.I would just stick it in a bag just incase you meet a jobsworth.

Sorry for dragging up an old thread mods, but its exactly on the point that i need info on!

Im going to thurles on sunday for the AI QFs.......and my train is at half twelve.

Would anyone know if the off license in Hueston serves before normal time or will it be regular 12.30??

Could you not just buy cans the day before and bring them with you ?

The bar in Heuston will be open before 12.30 but I doubt if the off licence will.

For the trip back Bowe's near the station will supply you so you don't need to carry enough for both legs of the journey! Nothing like a naggin and a few beers after a day in Thurles.
