    hey guys

i have been living in the states for the last 3 months and am going home next tuesday

i bought a new desktop computer about a month and a half ago and have been using it away here for day to day use

im going to have to bring this back with me obviously as shipping it back is too expensive.

as it is used and i was living here and working and not really on a holiday will have to pay any customes and excise or vat on it upon my return?

    No.

It's personal luggage not being shipped after a sale.

Think about it, do you pay import tax on your ipod when you come home, or your clothes, or any of your luggage?

    thanks for the response

i know that but i wasnt sure about the exact time line, like its a brand new computer that im bringing back from that states so i wasnt sure if i had to have owned it for a certain length of time or not

anyway i have a different problem now it looks like im going to have to post it home which means declaring a value for it

again this might be a stupid question but if this is a shipment from a private person to a private person(ie me) will customs stop it and open it and try and charge me anything?

    Once again- nope.

Three months abroad does not transfer your residence, it is just an extended holiday, so you only have the tax allowances which any holidaymaker has, i.e. €430. But the computer might be worth less than this.
