I mafter starting in Muay Thai, and ive doen TKD for a number of years. but never really fought in competitions and its somthing i want to do now. If u just start a particular art how long would you wait to to ewnter a comp. obviuosly its a matter of confidence and skill but would would you wait a certain amount of time ( a year, 6 months? ) before entering so u can get more exp fighting different people in house and get use to the scenarios that might arise?

I coach for Sanshou not Muay Thai but if your coach is like me, it should take you about as long as it takes to demonstrate to your coach that you can win fights in the competitions you wish to enter.

If you've just started, it wouldn't hurt to tell your coach your ambition, although realise that many talk the talk so to speak, and a fighters training is more demanding than a hobbyist’s, it demands sacrifice, by that I mean a lot of required training is done outside of the gym. Only your coach will know the standard required for the competitions available and know where you are at. Normally I’ve found that someone who applies themselves to a training regime can condition themselves to be able to receive and dish out power and so be able to fight regionally within 6 months, that’s not going to make them a European Champion or anything like it, there is no set programme as its fighting, not a belt system.
