Ah that's sad. He died from emphysema after a short stay in hospital (wikipedia). He was 64.

It's really sad, I only saw him in the Matchmaker a couple of weeks ago here in Cork and he seemed to be in grand form. We were in the pub next door afterwards and he came in & sat down at the table next to me. All I wanted to do was go 'Miley!'...kind of wish I had now.

but i herd that he didnt like it when ''miley; is said to him ,he was a shy man so said his pal on the news today.

Be glad that you didn't. I was on tour with Mick a few years ago and everywhere he went he had people saying it to him. He didn't mind people saying hello and talking to him but he was fed up to the back teeth with the "Miley" thing. All he wanted was to have a quiet drink after the show. Believe me he'd appreciate that you didn't say it.

I doubt very much that Mick himself ever imagined his passing being discussed on a forum dedicated to celebrity and showbiz!

We've lost another good one, RIP. Sad that he'll be best remembered as Milley are he was so much bigger than that role it being a caricature of rural Irishness which barely scratched the surface of the mans talent. I had such time for Mick Lally, an absolutely fantastic actor and a man who kept Irish culture and traditions alive without being a 'luvvie' or pretentious about it. He cared for his craft.

yes...it really very bad news for all of us
