Query about tuition fees?

Mods please move if in wrong forum, thanks!

Right, I'm about to return to college having dropped out three years ago. I was attending NUI Maynooth but hated my course and dropped out in mid-November. I followed the de-registration process fully to the letter.

Now that I have reapplied to the CAO, and accepted my first choice, I am registering with my new college. When I saw the Tuition fees (4,126.00) I was a bit taken aback and chose to query them with the college (Just a breakdown of individual costs resulting in that amount to see if I was still receiving some, if any, Government allowance). The college told me they do not calculate the tuition fees but the HEA do. Okay.

So I contacted the HEA who informed me that it is, in fact, the college who calculates the fees and that they would need to liase with NUI Maynooth to see how much of my Government allowance had been used up in my brief time there.

Rather than being bounced around between the HEA and the admissions office, would anyone be able to shed any light on whether my Government allowance has been used up, or maybe only partially, or point me towards those who definitely do calculate the tuition fees.

    Thanks in advance

It is the Colleges job to quote you the correct fee, not the HEA.

If you officially de-registered on the date you stated you would more than likely only have to pay repeat fees for the first semester (i.e half fees). After that you would be back on the free fees.

This advice is based on the assumption that when you dropped out it was in 1st year and you have done no third level study since.

You should not be bounced around like this, it is the job of the admissions office to sort this out. Tell them the HEA infomed you of the correct procedure and you want them to do their job. They may not liaise with Maynooth, they may ask you to get a letter/official confirmation from
Maynooth that you did officially de-register, but other than that, the onus is on them.

    Good luck
