What makes you excited for the future?

For me it's technology - I can't wait to see where we end up.

We have floating trains, 3D-printers and ion engines already, and new things are being discovered daily.
We are going to be using Google servers to try and discover a cure for Alzeimers (sp?:o).

And then I saw this yesterday and loved it.

My father remembers a time before tv and electricity, and he can't get over technology; I remember the first home computers, and I can't wait till I'm sixty and can annoy and humiliate my grand-nephews and nieces with requests that they show me how to use the 3D porn:p

What makes you excited for the future?

    (No thread-****ting please)

Hoverboards. Thats all I ever wanted.

But seriously, when we get quantum computing perfected I can wait to see the results. I'd be in the same boat OP, technology is what I'm looking forward to the most.

No they didn't. They simply designated as the start of another period of time.

All this 2012 nonsense is like looking at a clock and screaming hysteria that time is going to end when both hands get back to 12 o'clock.

I'm looking forward to cool stuff in the future, that is all. I can't imagine being as blown away by technology as my parents are, but then they may invent something completely unimaginable in the next 30 years.

I like the idea of settling down and raising my own family. You know, like Charles Manson.

Does starting my new job in 8 weeks time count?

If not also technology in general. And medical advancements. When curing cancer will be "Take 2 of these and call me in a week or so".

Also, the SETI telescopes picking up a signal of an early television broadcast from another species, could easily happen within our lifetime.

I'm going to be a father for the first time in October and will also be moving into my newly bought house around the same time. Busy and exciting times ahead!

@OP, I get what you mean about your dads amazement. My girlfriends dad (71) was telling me about how in the future we'll have access to satellites and see our houses from space.
I pulled out m phone and showed him a shot of his house on gogle earth and he was literally stunned. I just thought to myself, what discovery will leave that look on my face?

I look forward to seeing people in wheelchairs walk and blind people being able to see, with the advancements of science.
I look forward to seeing separation of church and state, however long that takes.

In the immediate, insignificant enough future, I'm looking forward to seeing Valentino Rossi ride for Ducati and season 4 of Breaking Bad.

2012.. the Eurocup in Poland & Ukraine. Not looking forward to the qualifying campaign though - it's bound to be as p*ss poor as most of our qualifiers, though it'd be hard to top the last one for glorious under-performances.

Space Travel for me. I want to live to be 500, just so I can see how far we go in space. Sure, the little gizmos and gadgets 50 years from now will be fun - but space travel!

I am looking forward to see exactly what we will do with nanotechnology.

Also things like gene therapy maybe, and just the inevitable new medical treatments that are going to arrive at some stage.
