Does anyone know how to do this? Do you get all Irish channels such as RTE1, TV3, etc. as well?

    thanks :)

You can't "buy a Setanta card".

According to Setanta's website you can only add it to a BSkyB subscription (you are asked for your Sky viewing card number). Even if you could subscribe independently of Sky the viewing card would still remain the property of Setanta and/or NDS, you wouldn't own it.
