Training for my second marathon at the moment (which is in 12 days and counting!) and am heartily sick of running at this point. Looking forward to doing more x-training and less running when the sodding thing is over.

Anyway, was wondering if any of the tri people could recommend any sort of swimming routine I should try doing? At the moment I swim about 1km once a week, though when I was in college used to swim about 3-4 times a week (got down to once a week when I started training for half-marathons, marathons etc).

    Go raibh mile!

    Hi there

    try as follows

depending on your chose tri swim distance.....

generally aim for 2-4 k per session depending on ability

Aim to keep HT at approx 65 - 75% HRmax

    400 IM warm up
    5 x 100 drills
    400 x 5 (70% HR max)
    200m cool down

    10 x 50 warm up
    100 / 200 / 300 / 400 / 400 / 300 / 200 / 100
with approx 10 s rest per 100 straight through
    400m cool down

some good sites out there as well.

let me know how you go with this

    D
