    Alright,

Thinking of pulling the trigger on a SAAB 93 1.9/2.2 diesel.

2004/2005 models with about 70k are in my price range. Anybody have any opinions/advice?

From what I hear they are a reliable enough car.

The 1.9 is a Fiat engine, the 2.2 is an old GM unit. The 1.9 is the one to go for.

Going by Parkers, it looks like there are two different 1.9 diesel engines available - one 120bhp and one 150bhp. Is the former a detuned version of the FIAT engine?

120bhp is an 8 valve unit, 150bhp is a 16 valve unit, both Fiat multi-jet common rail. There was also a rare 180bhp twin turbo version in later 9-3 models. Apparently the 8 valve unit has less issues than the 16 valve version.
