Came across this. Had never seen it before.

    http://run-down.com/statistics/calc.php

It appears to be more realistic than McMillan, especially when comparing sprints times to middle/ long distance times.

    What are peoples thoughts?

Hmmm or maybe not. Usains 9.58 equates to a 21.14 200m

My first thought is, what's the point of comparing sprint times to middle/ long distance times?

To figure out if you are a fast twitch or slow twitch runner. To see if you are suited to 200's/400's or to 1500m/ Mile or to Marathons. If there was a way of comparing your best over sprints to your best over distance events people may be able to figure out what they are best at maybe.

This calculator is way off though. MJ's 43.18 over 400m equates to a 1:34 for 800m and a 1hr 53min marathon. I give up trying to find a perfect one of these. They all have flaws!:)

Apologies for opening up such a rubbish thread!

In my experience there is no such thing. *Everyone* has a mix of fast and slow twitch fibres and even that clasification isn't fully correct as one type (Type IIb?) can change from one to the other depending on the training. Now fair enough the elites at either end of teh spectrum will have a greater proportion of fast or slow twitch but for the average joe (and thats 99% of teh people on here) we all have a combo and your training will have a greater impact on your performance than the proportion of fast twitch or slow twitch muscle fibres you have.

And you shouldn't need a computer to tell you where your strengths lie - that will become clear from training and racing.

I put in my PB for 5k (23:24) and it said my time for a half should be around 1:48. I've only ever done one half before this and it was 2:08.
I have another half coming up in just under 3 weeks, so time will tell...
    Aiming for sub-2hr though.
