Gardai in Waterford say there has been a worrying increase in the number of drink driving arrests over the last two weekends.

Nine people were arrested over the last three days, six in the City and three in the Dunmore East area.

Thousands of people had attended the Blue grass festival in Dunmore. The weekend before seven people were arrested for drink driving.

Gardai say normally the figure would be no more than four .

Meanwhile more cars were broken into in the woodstown area of County Waterford over the weekend

A handbag was taken from one and luggage taken out of the boot of the other car.

giles lynchwood, in fairness this isn't just down to the Gardai. People that know these people know they are drink driving, their friends, family etc. Something seriously wrong with all these people.

Cabaal i agree with you 100%,may i add if Government's past and present were serious about tackling this anti social behaviour we would have zero tolerance,ie if you drive you dont drink period. As Eamon McCann wrote a few years ago A drunk driver is in control of 1,1/2 ton's of metal and glass a very dangerous weapon loose on our roads.

    Your right too,

The Generation that I'd have sympathy for in relation to diunk driving (in that it was socially acceptable for them for years) is starting to thin out so anyone else that attempts it is frankly a scumbag chancer.
