ABS pump module repair in Ireland?

Alright, here's the deal. I've had two mechanics look at the ABS problem on my 1998 VW Golf.

The first was a mechanic at a main dealer and the second a local mechanic. Both said that the module is causing the ABS light to come on on the dashboard.

basically, buying a new unit is looking very costly and to be honest I'd rather avoid going down that route.

There is a website (www.ecutesting.com) that repair the ABS unit, give a 2yr warrantee but they are based in the UK. They also have an ad on ebay.ie:

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/VW-Golf-Bora-Polo-ABS-Pump-Module-ECU-ATE-Teves-/390066005985?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM

Does anybody know of anyone in Ireland (I'll drive anywhere!) who repairs ABS pump modules? Or has anyone ever heard of ECU-testing Ltd?

This was mentioned only 2 days ago (Search!) here. Logic Automotive can repair ABS Controllers, I assume you mean the Controller (plastic box on the pump with the electrics in it) not the pump itself (metal unit with pressure hoses coming out of it).

Logic seem to be competitive with Online places (though not that eBay ad, thats very cheap) pricewise too, which is nice for a local outfit.

    Thanks for the quick reply...

i've just sent an email onto Logic Automotive. so hopefully something will come out of it.

I spent about 15 mins trying to find anything whatsoever on google for ABS repairs but nothing ever came up...so your help is much appreciated.

I think you tried to post a link or something but i cannot click on anything...maybe you could try again.

anyway, I'll let you know how i get on..

I brought the car up to this fella today in Fermanagh. He has a massive array of diagnosis equipment.

Anyway, he spent a while searching through the ABS error messages...then he connected up another ABS pump that he had in the garage to my car to make sure it was the pump that was at fault... Low and behold, the error message was still there after other pump was connected.

So turned out it wasn't the ABS pump or module after all. After some more rooting about under the bonnet he found out that the ABS pump wasn't getting enough power because of a loose fuse!

He fixed the fuse and now the ABS light has gone away for good.

It worked out at about £105 for the 2 and a half hours he spent fiddling with the car. He even fitted a pollen filter free of charge...which got the air in the car working again...and that'd hadn't been working since i bought the car 3yrs ago! In fact the filter had been in the car since the car was manufactured in germany back in 1998!

    Happy Days! :D

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Glad you got sorted - he seems to be a decent mechanic :)

The other two are shocking though. Shoddy diagnostics to put it mildly...

just shows what could happen if you don't go to the right person in the first place.

the other mechanic is actually very good at what he does...clutches, gearboxes shocks etc. But show him a faulty electrical problem and he'd run a mile!

That guy (Jim) from Castlederg fixes nothing other than electrical problems, so it just depends on who you bring the car to really.

Regarding ABS Unit repairs , Has anyone delt with Logic Automotive on the Naas Road .. Its seems the only place in Ireland for ABS repairs ?

    Twice.

First time was a VW Caddy ABS controller that I knew was faulty. He gave me the runaround for 2 weeks saying he was waiting for parts to come in for it before finally saying that he couldn't fix it. He still charged me €100 + VAT despite this and the invoice said "Unit tested no fault found" which was clearly not the case. I subsequently bought a replacement unit instead.

Second time was a BMW E39 controller with the usual speedo problem. He took 2 weeks to fix it and charged me €300 + VAT. I could have had it sent over to the UK for repair in the same length of time for half the price.

    Re George ...

Regarding Logic Automotive , I spoke to this guy ( Peter ) on the phone regarding Toyota Avensis ABS controller that is faulty ,he said to call in to his workshop in Rathcoole Co Dublin , I drove down from Drogheda , when I opened the car bonnet his words was , '' Never seen a ABS Unit like that'
He then told me Id be best taking it to an auto eletrician ...
Such a wast of time driving to Rathcoole , 25 Years Specilists at this kind of repair that delivers ( as stated on his website )

Waste of phone calls , Waste of travel 75 mile return trip , waste of Space ... How Logic is that !!

Hes very good with diagnostics and all sorts of electrical repairs involving ecu, etc but very expensive. He charges around 600 for the abs, while they can be got in uk with lifetime warranty for 150£. Installation is not a big deal

I know this is a bit old but can you recommend anywhere that will repair ABS Module ? Hoping for somewhere in Ireland but if not I would appreciate if you could recommend UK

    Thanks

I've used ECU Testing myself and found them good with a quick turnaround.

You could try the Thomas Dennehy fella that's mentioned in posts #75 and #76 in this thread recently:

What car is it and what is wrong with the ABS?

Got an 'abs sensor' repair done for 25 parts and 30 labour.

Parts came from local scrapyard donor car
and fitting by part-time car tech specalist guy with diagnosis meter.

Before that had to get refund from shoddy outfit over in eng,
who posted out pair of £100 sensors with only 1" of wire left on it.

Quotes for a brand new set came in 500+ from europarts...
You take your chances with scrap parts, luckily these ones were fine.
