How to get my money back from UK?

    Hi all,
This is my first post so i hope that this the correct section to place this thread. Just over two years ago I was introduced to an "exciting investment opportunity" through a friend of a friend. I transferred the minimum investment of £25,000 to the director of this company having met him in Dublin to discuss the investment. Although i completed all the paperwork i never recieved any signed commitment from him. I have never recieved any of the promised interest payments. Over the last 3 months I have been contacting this guy to try and have my initial investment returned to me. All I have is this guys phone number and in fairness to him he usually answers my calls but he always has some excuse about what the delay is in getting my money transferred back to me etc etc. This guy lives in the UK (I dont even have an address).
All I want is my own money back, can anyone give me some advice on how best to pursue this. Please don't point out how stupid I was, I already know that and am at my wits end. Please Help.:(

You have, as you know, made a mistake as we all do. You know you will never get your money back. Don't let this matter fester and bring you down. Many successful people mess up and loose loads but they focus on where they can win and not on where they have recently lost.

Builderfromhell has obviously made a similar mistake ;)

Sorry man, my heart sank when I read your post. Can the friend of a friend not locate him? Though you have no legal recourse that I can see, just your word against his.

What is the situation as regards taking legal action against someone who resides in the UK?

Go see a solicitor and start proceedings.

Solicitor can serve to the UK without leave of the court under Regulation 44/2001.
£25,000 is about €30,000 so it will fall under Order 13 of the rules of the Circuit Court.

Won't the legal proceedings cost a fortune?
In view of the limited information isn't it highly unlikely that the money will be re-paid and if so why spend a fortune on a solicitor?

No, the point of Reg 44/2001 is to show that the courts of this jurisdiction have authority to deal with the matter here (in the Irish Circuit Court) so it shouldn't cost more than any other case.

I don't see why it would be unlikely to get the money back (or at least a judgement in his favour). I did just see that OP doesn't have an address for this guy, but there should be some way of getting it (via bank transfer info etc.)

But that's the main reason we don't give legal advice here: OP could have a very strong case or a very weak case in reality and we can't really assess it here. A solicitor can get all the info and get an opinion if necessary.
