    Hey Guys,

I have Win 7 Ultimate 64bit installed on my laptop, the machine was previously Vista, anyhow I got a promo copy of it from Microsoft for attending one of their seminars before launch, and never got around to installing it until after xmas, anyway, I turned on lapsy this morning, logged in as normal, then Windows told me my copy is not genuine?

Im not running a cracked version of it, nor would I of MS software and can even post a picture of the discs and serials of it...

Anyway I restarted and havent been able to replicate the issue since, even threw in a few updates and installed them....

    Any ideas boards techies?

If you can't replicate it then I'd put it down as a temporary glitch in the activation process. As long as your copy of Windows is activated (check by opening the Start menu, right-clicking on Computer and clicking on Properties) I wouldn't worry about it. :)

Alternatively, and pain-in-the-ass-atively you could rebuild and just not install the relevant update (KB971033).

If you are using an evaluation copy of Windows 7 then it has timed out..it's time to buy a full copy

I also had a problem kind of like this the other day. Was playing a game I had downloaded and when i exited it I had a warning on the corner of my wallpaper on my desktop saying something to the effect of
    Windows 7
    Build 7600
This copy of Windows is not genuine

I restarted my computer and it disappeared but does anyone know why this came up?!
I bought my laptop at the beginning of this year and it came with Windows 7 already installed

Build 7600 is a trial version of the Release Candidate (RC) it is quite common to see cracked version of this build but once it has failed the Windows Genuine Advantage tool you will progressively lose Windows components until it becomes unusable, for a start it will only display a black background, later you will lose networking, a good clue is that these versions are always Windows 7 Ultimate

It was probably a glitch in the activation process. Again, if it corrects itself when you restart the computer I wouldn't worry about it. :)

That's incorrect. The Release Candidate was build 7100. Build 7600 is the Release-To-Manufacturing (retail) build.

it's arguable, but Build 7600 was a leaked version which pre dates the genuine RTM version,

It was widely available on warez sites with an activation crack but WGA now detects 7600 as not genuine
Not many people buy Win7 Ultimate 64, most businesses are buying Win7 Pro which does not have bitlocker

So are you saying that the Windows 7 that was pre-installed on my laptop isn't genuine?

    Microsoft says it is not;

    Windows 7
    Build 7600
This copy of Windows is not genuine

Did you buy your laptop new?

google "Is Win7 build 7600 genuine?" and you will see plenty of links including some on youtube

The bottom line is that windows genuine advantage (WGA)tool can now pick up installs that have used the OEM SLP bios hack, some think that because they get windows updates their version is legal but Microsoft push out WGA with the updates..they seem to have it nailed down
