I'm interested to see if anyone has some reliable method of sending SMS messages from a server 2003 box. I have been using Microsoft SMS sender and a selection of mobile phones but non have come across as suitable for enterprise alerting functions.

Anyone using something for this that is reliable?

    Steve

Unless you particularly need a hardware solution, maybe have a look at Bulktext.ie

Thanks, Afraid I need hardware so alerts can be independent of on site networking.

    Hi Steve,

May I ask where you are getting the Info that you want to send by SMS ?

I have developed a few SMS Server programs for my clients , usually they read data from an SQL Database and then my program sends it through a dedicated SMS Modem on a serial port,

Feel free to drop me an email if you have any questions,

There's a number of gsm terminals which connect via serial port.
You can send a SMS by sending a series of AT commands, e.g http://www.cellular.co.za/at_etsi.htm

    Siemens modems such as
    http://www.advoco.ie/wireless-terminals-cinterion-siemens-matrix-mc-technologies/cinterion-siemens-mc52i-terminals-mc52it.html
take a sim card, normal UPS able power and an external antenna connector which can be run away from the server racks.
