Should I buy an iPhone 4 on 3

    Hi,

I am currently a 3 mobile broadband customer and I was wondering should I buy an iPhone 4 off them. They rang me offering me 2 months free rental, iPhone 4 for €309 on €40 per month. I think its a good deal but I have never been impressed with 3's customer service when there was problems with my broadband. So I was just wondering the following:

Can you use data services on your iPhone when you switch off 3's 3g coverage onto vodafones coverage where 3 dont have coverage?

If you had a problem with your iPhone on 3, how was it handled and was it resolved quickly?

    Appreciate any replies. Thanks

I got the iPhone 4 from 3 on the 40 a month tarrif for 209, you sure it's 309 they want?

I'd say go for it if you in an area with good 3G coverage, their charges and tariffs are v hard to beat.

Yea I said I wanted the 32gb if I was getting one. The 16gb is €209. Their 3g coverage isnt great in my area. I have to go upstairs to get it so I'd be worried about it switching between 3 and vodafone all the time.

Ok i decided to give 3 the benefit of the doubt and just ordered a 32gb iPhone 4 off them on the €40 a month plan. I reckon its an excellent plan compared to other networks. However I do a bit of travelling and was just wondering can I get an unlock code from 3 straight away in order to allow me to use networks in countries I regularly travel to?

AFAIK 3 will let you unlock straight away but you have to pay €25 for the privilege!

i think thats not too bad to be honest. you get it for 575, pay 25, and its as simfree as the apple one.

only difference: you can get it today in a shop?

    on a side note:
do you think the new ones are running 4.0.1?

Well, also you have to wait a few days for them to get around to unlocking it.

Thanks guys. Thats good to know. I dont want to be getting a huge bills when i come back off my hols so just going to buy a local sim. I dont mind paying the €25 unlocking fee. Phone still works out way cheaper than vodafone or o2 even after paying to have it unlocked.

even knowing three, i think it might still be less than 3 weeks :D

The phone operators don't unlock it, they request Apple to do it.

come to think of it, isnt the 25 only for people who bought the iphone on the contracts and no prepay? id love to be corrected on this as it kinda makes sense not to easily allow prepay unlocks...

    No it's for 3pay too

im getting an iphone off someone who is leaving their 3 contract and does not want to ring 3 due to not liking their customer care experience.

if i got the iphone and the account number, can i ask and pay for the unlock myself? from 3?

No they will only speak to the account holder, there is a little thing called the Data Protection Act that they abide by

true enough on that. can i say its now a pay as you go / or was given to me? (sounds bad reading it), but trying to find a way to legitimately get it unlocked from 3...
