    Hi,

I brought my 2000 Mitsubishi Carisma TDI for a service today. Turns out it needs a bit of work and it's going to cost a few bob (understatement). Here's list of work needed and prices quoted, can anyone tell me if the prices look amazing/brutal/about ok.

    Timing belt €535
    Front brakepads/disks €274
    Air filter €20
    Tyres 185/65/14 €45 each
Driver side tie rod end €79
Oil leak (needs seal) €134 (leak is in clutch I think he said, was busy trying to stop myself fainting by this time)
    Front/rear wipers €45

This gets me to the point where I have an intermittent engine management light which could take "hours of work" @ €94 per hour. I dont even want to think about that aspect of it yet though.

Yea, stay away from the main dealer unless it is a brand new car (and even then . . . . . . . ). Pointless on the 10year old

As others have said, stay away from main dealer. Take it to an indy. He will tell you what he thinks needs doing.

Have you ever had the timing belt done before?

Not entirely sure of when the belt was done last, there's 146,000 miles on it and I've only had it since 140,000 - it mightn't need to be done at all but want to be sure it doesn't exlpode during NCT.
Just called a couple of local garages and they're a whole lot better priced - I haven't managed to get half price yet but I 'm not too far off it. Wow, I though main dealers were somewhere close to at the races but now I'm not even sure they know which sport we're playing.

Including 2 tyres, there is no change from €1200 there.

A good indy for all that work should cost no more than €800
