    Hi all,

Have a look here if you want the latest and greatest OFFICIAL Froyo (I9000XXJPC)

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769043

    EDIT:

There seems to be some issues with this firmware. Apparantly it changes core files not previously touched by other firmwares.

From what can be found in the original XDA thread, it changes the SalesCode of the phone to KOR (mine was previously VDI) and it also disables some menus (*#272*HHNN# for one).

Also, some people are experiencing that the firmware is SIM locking their phone.

Seeing as it changes core files that other firmwares don't touch, reverting back to a previous firmware will NOT restore those files.

Maybe you should hold off updating until more information is obtained.

    My god it's fast

The hour or so I've been playing with it I've experienced NO lag whatsoever and GPS is getting a fix in seconds. Huzzah

Im looking forward to this but there is no concrete details on that thread that it is officially out, can you go into more details of what you did?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 JLarsen

    Sure thing

I booted up the old Kies then went into Windows Registry and made the following changes:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB\1
    "SoftwareRevision"="I9000XXJF3/I9000OXAJF3/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
    "ProductCode"="GT-I9000HKDXEU"
    "HIDSWVER"="I9000XXJF3/I9000OXAJF3/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
    "DEVCONINFO"=""

Note: The 1 under DeviceDB can change, depending on your history with Kies.

Then I fired up the Firmware upgrade and it told me JPC was available. The rest is as they say, history. :)

EDIT: Remember to have the phone connected and visible in Kies BEFORE the registry change is made, otherwise Kies will reset your changes.

Hmmm, will have to wait and see, have the one click lag fix and my sgs runs like lightening atm, I might wait for the official release as the quad and linpack scores arent as impressive as I expected.

As said in the xda thread, it could be the euro version of the yesterdays asian release or it could be the official and the end of september release date could be in case there was any problems. Thanks for the link I will be keeping a close eye on this.

It's as official as it gets, it's a Kies update using the UK registry info.

Ok, some more questions, were you rooted? Did you lose all personal info or did you backup?

was rooted, ain't no more. There is a root out already for 2.2 I think, but I haven't had a chance to mess with it yet.

Apps survived the flash, but it was a hell of FCs and lag, so I just did a Factory Wipe and now I'm in heaven :P

There will prob be a lot done between now and when I get home tonight but I think anyone looking into doing this should use a backup app and then copy the files over to your pc before going ahead, if your still laggy or black screen you will need to factory reset and clear your cache.

And maybe posting how they got on here. I wont be home til 9pm so want to see how everyone gets on

If anyone is trying this on a standard un-modded Galaxy S, can you post here what you did and how you got on. Would hate to brick my device when its less that a week old :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,019 ✭✭✭ct5amr2ig1nfhp

I updated mine using the regedit trick. Took a bit of messing about but it finally worked.

After the update, it stuck on the Galaxy S logo a good 4 or 5 minutes before loading completely.

Playing around with it now. I've had to uninstall Advanced Task Killer. It keeps crashing.

Edit: Able to create folders directly under "Bookmarks" :)

Yeah, it's recommended to do a wipe after the flash :)

You should be fine following the posted guide.

My phone was rooted, but was running on stock firmware and no lagfixes or anything.

Nevermind i didn't have test mode on.

Don't have time to update now, but at least it means an OTA update will be along shortly.

    Looking forward to it.

My one got completely stuck, just very occasionally emitting a forlorn vibration. I had to go into recovery mode and delete everything.
    Then it worked fine.
My one previously was rooted and had the one-click-lag-fix installed. This may have caused some problems.

The phone does feel nice and smooth afterwards (must keep taking the placebo tablets )

Very nice photo of what appears to be Annecy in the west of France for the new default wallpaper.

Going for a second attempt now. First time round it worked, or so it said, but when it booted up again it was still version 2.1 - boo urns! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,579 ✭✭✭BopNiblets

Ok I managed to get Kies working but now this:
"This devices version cannot be updated" :(
    clipboard01yy.th.jpg
    BAH!

Also want to ask you 2.2 guys, how does Dolphin HD browser run on it? It always froze for a few seconds on 2.1 for me, stock Dophin was faster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 927 ✭✭✭Kev.

Sorry for asking what seems like a stupid question guys....

When 2.2 is released officially,Will I will be able to update through WIFI from the update button on my phone

    Thanks in advance

Seems decent enough so far, my only gripe is the way setting an alarm now works - setting one now for 0700 would set it for 0700 next Tuesday, not 0700 tomorrow. Not the biggest issue in the world, but slightly irritating to have to change them all!

    Plus
    - I had to type in the Meteor APN details to get mobile data working
    - Scrolling seems less smooth in contacts and the applications grid view
    - there may be some issues with what apps you can see in the market. Possibly because the phone thinks it Korean? I can now see and install Google Voice Actions and Chrome-to-Phone but I cant see Google Places Directory?
I havent gotten around to rooting it yet

Probably in general a good idea to hold off till the official, official release

got it working yesterday, and rooted + lagfix as well.

To get kies to tell you there's an update you have to put it in test mode (open the update firmware app and press ctrl+alt+U+P (it seems it only works in the latest kies) and the registry has to be changed in order to trick kies into thinking you have an older firmware.

There's a big post in xda developers with all the info.

Any word on when the official Froyo update for the Galaxy will become available in Ireland and what form will the notification, if any, take?

According to this link it should arrive mid September.

There's also a new version of Kies out today, that might indicate an imminent release.

Still a few bugs to iron out, but I'm hopeful they'll be sorted with the official release

I thought it was very good. Very, very usable.
Unfortunately due to my obsessive fiddling with the phone I nearly bricked it (again) and was lucky to be able to re-install a 2.1 ROM.
My phone is now permanently locked to Korea Sales Code but doesn't seem to make any practical difference.
I have sworn off any further fiddling until the official 2.2 release.

Sorry to hear about your Sales Code woes Johnny, I managed to backup my /efs folder shortly after I flashed to JPC, so I had no problems restoring my changed info and go back to JM7 (which I'm at now until the official 2.2 is out)

A mate of mine upgraded to Froyo and was in a panic all week because he had stuck his phone sales code to KOR. After a few sleepless nights he eventually managed to restore it to rooted 2.1 with the VDI Sales code.

Just went through the whole update process. It doesn't seem to have worked. It just installed the same firmware again. 2.1-update 1?

The JPC update has since been pulled from Kies, however it's still available to flash through ODIN, though I'd not advise it unless you wanna risk bricking your phone (ie. you know what you're doing).
