    Hey guys,

I'm Looking to buy a laptop, old one is on its way out! :(.

I need it to be well able to do a lot of Video editing with ease.

    I've two in mind.
1.)HP laptop with Athlon II P320 Processor and 3GB memory and 250 hard drive.
2.)Acer laptop with Intel Pentium T4500 dual core processor and 4GB memory with 500GB hard drive.

I don't want to sound redundant but which one would suit my needs best?

    Thanks guys!

first thing to consider is the o/s on the acer. As far as i can remember 32 bit o/s can only use 3gb ram if u want 2 use more u need 64 bit o/s.Then u have 2 think is the software u are going 2 be using is it compatable with 64 bit. So for me i would get the hp as i think they are alot more reliable.

..thats not exactly true :) : Windows 7 32bit can use more than 4gigs of ram easly..

Thats not entirely true either ! A process in Windows 7 32bit is limited to using 4gb of ram, on the server side certain applications (like Oracle) are specifically coded around an ability to do work spread across multiple process instances. So technically Windows cant use 4gb of memory, programs that can use multiple processes to spread load across memory expanded by PAE.

What you also have to concider that the Hardware may not be able to utilize all of the either. Some laptops are limited to presenting 3/3.5 gb of memory even in a 64bit operating system.

..thats right, but consider this: most of laptops have 'onboard' graphics card which using part of physical memory installed, from 64mb up to 256mb depending of video chipset and bios settings so give you less ram available for system itself .. thats mean 4gb installed always will be better than 3gb :)

I would find the model numbers of both and search on google or yahoo for any problems other people have on these machines if any its another way to keep clear of any bad laptops. But dont be scared if its only a few people having problems because every computer has problems but it might never happen to you it all depends on how computer is used. Hope this is of help.
