Hi folks, hope I can get some advice. When I'm eating my right jaw is clicking/cracking/grinding on every chew. Its not a new thing but seems to be getting more painfull lately.

Can a dentist help me here or should I be going to a gp. Other people are starting to notice the clicking too and commenting on it.

No, it's never given her a problem she can hear it but she says it doesnt feel "strange" so why bother getting poked and prodded for nothing. Its been a long time since i lived at home so thankfully listening to it is very rare these days!

See a dentist and have your temporomandibular joints assessed.

Non-surgical treatment usually consists of either a hard or soft mouthguard to be worn either full-time or part-time. Surgical treatment usually consists of arthroscopy and irrigation (sticking a little camera in there and rinsing out with salty water). Some dentists and specialists advocate opening the joint space by changing the way that the teeth meet together, but it is a contentious issue.
