new user to this site, but have been reading & hearing bad things about st. margarets recently. Played there yesterday with a group of mates, 30 euro a head which was great value. No doubt it has gone downhill a bit since it's glory days but wasn't in too bad condition at all. First couple of greens were very poor, but they gradually got better. Also, they have put the old 8th hole back the way it was, so you have to go over the water now again.
All in all a very enjoyable day, it was no wonder the place was jammed, at 30 a head weekend and 25 midweek, it is very good value as I reckon it still is one of the toughest courses around

Glad they put the whole back that way, didn't like when they 'eased' it up. I like the track a lot and - whether you're a shill for the place or not ;) - am seriously considering joining for '11.

will prob close within the next 2 years i'd imagine.

any truth in the rumour that Royston Brady has left Roganstown though to take over at St Mags?

And so, another baseless scaremongering rumour is born.

That's good news about the 8th hole, it used to be one of the better par 5's. I also think at €30 a pop it's very good value, but I don't see it saving the place in the long term unfortunately.

Is there no end to your constant, tiresome, childish behavior? Your naivety is not even funny anymore.

st mags has been on a slippery slope for years
do you honestly think that 5 years ago they'd be opening their gates for 25-30 euro green fees?

i have played there many times and by-and-large have enjoyed it
however i would say that some of the greens can be pathetic at times..
grass growing in the car park etc doesn't bother me too much
they dont sell lattes in the club house - again doesn't bother me much

but when ur seeing moss all over some of the greens well then you need to ask questions

i've seen it deteriorate bigtime in last 3 years
it is questionable whether or not it can attract the necessary traffic to survive

i've no vested interest in st. margarets at all, just thought I'd share my experience last week
I agree that it is likely that it will continue to struggle but I wouldn't be taking pleasure from that as some seen keen to do
